The DHS&#8217;s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a division of ICE, is actively pursuing leads, conducting interviews, and supporting prosecutions to ensure election integrity and uphold the voting rights of American citizens. This initiative responds to rising concerns about voter fraud, including cases of non-citizens illegally voting and issues with voter rolls containing deceased individuals, duplicates, and falsified details. DHS reports over 24,000 cases identified since April 2025 through verification programs targeting non-citizens registered to vote, with several arrests made for voter fraud, identity theft, and illegal voting. A recent example includes the arrest of a city manager in Oklahoma on voter fraud charges. The investigation efforts are compounded by problematic voter lists and lax state laws, especially in states like California and New Jersey, where non-citizen registration and voting practices have raised alarms. Despite efforts to address these vulnerabilities, electoral systems remain at risk due to outdated records and insufficient verification procedures. Congressional action to enhance election security, such as passing legislation requiring voter ID, remains stalled, but DHS officials emphasize the importance of protecting the integrity of U.S. elections from fraud and foreign interference.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>With a little more than two months to go before November\u2019s midterm elections, the Department of Homeland Security has opened an intensive election fraud investigation in at least nine states, according to internal Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/08\/31\/politics\/homeland-security-voter-fraud-investigations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guidance<\/a> obtained by CNN. <\/p>\n<p>A DHS spokesperson said HSI cannot comment on active investigations. The official did say that the investigations unit, a division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, \u201cis actively rooting out and investigating election fraud wherever it can be found.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHSI is committed to restoring integrity to our election systems and ensuring that American citizens and only American citizens are electing American leaders,\u201d the spokesperson said Tuesday in an email responding to The Federalist\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Restoring election integrity has been a tall order amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2026\/08\/05\/how-confident-are-americans-in-the-midterm-elections-fairness-and-accuracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sagging voter confidence<\/a> in the system, <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/issues\/voter-roll-error-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dirty voter rolls<\/a> in states across the country, and the refusal by Democrat-led states to release their voter rolls for auditing by federal officials. The \u201ccoordinated voter fraud surge initiative\u201d comes as concern rises over noncitizens showing up in voter registration databases \u2014 and casting ballots in federal elections. <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Zero Evidence?\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>On Tuesday, HSI launched a coordinated criminal voter fraud \u201csurge\u201d aimed at pursuing investigative leads, conducting field interviews, and supporting timely prosecutorial review, the guidance states, according to CNN. Investigators will conduct the surge through mid-October in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wisconsin. <\/p>\n<p>The left-leaning St. Louis Post Dispatch posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.columbiamissourian.com\/opinion\/guest_commentaries\/hoskins-secret-release-of-voter-data-deserves-a-full-judicial-examination\/article_58ac675f-390d-4553-a278-38707328e819.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seething editorial<\/a> in June blasting Missouri\u2019s Secretary of State for following federal law and releasing the Show Me State\u2019s voters rolls to the DOJ. As cases of election\/voter fraud continue to rise, the leftist Dispatch clung to the false assertion that there is \u201cof course, zero evidence or even indication that illegal noncitizens voting virtually ever happens.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Oh, it happens. Much more frequently than the lying corporate media like to admit. <\/p>\n<p>In its statement to The Federalist, DHS noted multiple voter fraud arrests, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2026\/03\/09\/ice-arrests-criminal-illegal-alien-who-voted-seven-federal-elections-2008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">charges<\/a> filed in March against a Mauritanian illegal alien accused of illegally voting in U.S. elections since 2008. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2026\/08\/14\/ice-investigation-leads-sentencing-illegal-alien-who-committed-identity-theft\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Last month,<\/a> a criminal illegal alien from Colombia was sentenced to three years in a federal prison for committing identity theft to vote in several elections, including the 2020 presidential election. On Tuesday, Shonda Lou Barnes, city manager for the Town of Mannsville, Oklahoma, was <a href=\"https:\/\/okcfox.com\/news\/local\/city-manager-in-oklahoma-arrested-on-voter-fraud-charges-shonda-lou-barnes-mannsville-johnston-county-sheriffs-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested<\/a> on voter fraud charges. <\/p>\n<h2>Troubling Numbers<\/h2>\n<p>DHS says since April 2025, more than 24,000 cases have been identified through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) online verification program \u2014 administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services \u2014 as potential non-U.S. citizens who were on voter rolls. Those cases have been referred to HSI for further investigation. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDHS is laser focused on prosecuting and removing aliens who vote and preventing the dilution of the votes of U.S. citizens,\u201d the department official told The Federalist. \u201cOur message to aliens who vote in American elections is clear: we will find you, arrest you, and you will face the consequences \u2014 including criminal charges and deportation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The criminal voter fraud investigation surge follows on the heels of New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/22\/doj-demands-answers-on-new-jersey-voter-roll-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admission<\/a> in July that some 6,600 noncitizens landed on the Garden State\u2019s voter rolls in 2023 and 2024 \u2014 and hundreds of the foreign nationals voted in federal elections.  <\/p>\n<p>The Democrat governor has stonewalled Republican efforts to get to the bottom of the election integrity disaster. Republican Study Committee member Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., is not happy with Sherrill\u2019s recalcitrance. Van Drew <a href=\"https:\/\/chrissmith.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=415809\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> Fox News over the weekend that he is working with the full Judiciary Committee to bypass Sherrill and obtain the records from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/new-jersey-government-under-congressional-investigation-after-explosive-revelations-noncitizen-voters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell<\/a>, who heads up New Jersey\u2019s election division. The congressman said they will issue subpoenas if necessary. <\/p>\n<p>Van Drew, who serves as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee\u2019s Oversight Subcommittee, said he plans to hold a hearing into New Jersey\u2019s election integrity mess. The question is, how many more noncitizens are on the rolls given New Jersey\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.njoag.gov\/trust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sanctuary state<\/a> status, its liberal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/mvc\/press\/archives\/2021\/042921.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">law<\/a> that grants driver\u2019s licenses to illegal aliens, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/07\/30\/new-jerseys-noncitizen-voter-registration-brings-private-worries-into-the-open-01015840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">motor-voter law<\/a> that automatically registers license applicants to vote? <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Election Security at Risk\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>DHS officials have said they are ramping up resources to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/i-worked-with-john-kelly-and-dont-believe-a-word-he-says\/\" title=\"I Worked With John Kelly And Don&#039;t Believe A Word He Says\">investigate potential election fraud<\/a>. They have their work cut out for them. <\/p>\n<p>Dirty voters rolls in states across the country plague the U.S. election system, and open the door to election fraud. In California, a <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/press\/pilf-uncovers-alarming-errors-in-californias-voter-rolls-nearly-95000-deceased-registrants-tens-of-thousands-of-duplicates-and-placeholder-birthdates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">review <\/a>by the Public Interest Legal Foundation last year found nearly 95,000 deceased registrants, tens of thousands of interstate duplicates, and thousands more registrants with placeholder or fictitious birthdates. <\/p>\n<p>The election integrity watchdog notes California\u2019s dirty voter rolls are just the tip of the iceberg. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are failures that put election security at risk,\u201d said PILF President J. Christian Adams in a press release. \u201cCalifornia\u2019s voter roll is riddled with errors. State officials must act to fix these problems before another election cycle passes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>State officials have done little to clean up the mess. The messy voter list paired with California\u2019s lax laws allowing first-time voters to use insurance cards, gym membership and other alternative forms of identification to register to vote can\u2019t help but make Golden State election administration vulnerable to fraud. <\/p>\n<p>The vulnerabilities demand congressional passage of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/missouri-legislature-takes-an-axe-to-zuckbucks-in-state-elections\/\" title=\"Missouri Legislature Takes An Axe To Zuckbucks In State Elections\">comprehensive election integrity bill<\/a> that has stalled in the Senate, Trump administration officials have reiterated. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump has been unequivocal: Nothing is more fundamental than the integrity and security of our elections,\u201d the DHS spokesperson said. \u201cThat\u2019s why the Trump Administration has repeatedly called on Congress to pass the SAVE America Act \u2014 commonsense legislation that requires voters to present photo ID and implements other critical measures to protect federal elections from fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Matt Kittle is a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist.
