Discovery. Pratt has been <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/spencerpratt\/status\/2094170489098805741\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/spencerpratt\/status\/2094170489098805741\">extremely critical<\/a> of the Democratic state attorney general for that reason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paramount CEO David Ellison has been involved in talks regarding a federal film tax credit for some time. Coincidentally, he visited <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"260\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, to speak with lawmakers about a bipartisan bill on the same day that Bonta filed his lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It remains to be seen if enough Democrats who strongly oppose the merger can look past Ellison\u2019s involvement in talks for a tax credit. Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jamie-raskin\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"7639\">Jamie Raskin<\/a> (D-MD) and Sen. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cory-booker\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"501\">Cory Booker<\/a> (D-NJ), who have been highly critical of Paramount, have not posted statements on Trump\u2019s renewed push for such a measure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the meantime, Rep. Laura Friedman (D-CA) is working with Sen. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/adam-schiff\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"130\">Adam Schiff<\/a> (D-CA) and others to build bipartisan support for the legislation whenever it\u2019s introduced in Congress. It could be filed as soon as September, according to <em>Politico<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both Friedman and Schiff welcomed Trump\u2019s advocacy for the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Motion Picture Association, a prominent American trade group that represents the major film studios and streaming services, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/motionpictures\/status\/2094561686493479016\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/motionpictures\/status\/2094561686493479016\">applauded<\/a> the president\u2019s support for a federal film tax credit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The news was also embraced by labor unions representing thousands of workers in Hollywood, such as SAG-AFTRA and IATSE.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-how-did-it-get-bipartisan-backing\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How did it get bipartisan backing?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Veteran actor Jon Voight helped advance the discussion on how to protect Hollywood jobs in America by going directly to Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two figures have known each other for roughly three decades. They later became politically associated with one another as Voight became an outspoken supporter of Trump dating back to his 2016 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Trump\u2019s second term, Voight was appointed as one of the president\u2019s three \u201cspecial ambassadors\u201d to Hollywood. The other two spots were filled by iconic actors and filmmakers Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since last year, Voight has served as Trump\u2019s ear on everything Hollywood and acted as a mediator between the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"8767\">White House<\/a> and congressional Democrats who may not see eye to eye with the Republican president. The stance taken by Friedman and Schiff on Trump\u2019s desire for a federal film tax credit suggests this is not a partisan issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, Friedman is appreciative of the influential role that Voight has played in conversations on the topic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI sat down with him for quite a while, and then the next day he went and met with Donald Trump and had a great discussion with him,\u201d she told <em>Politico<\/em>. \u201cAnd he has really been a great bridge to the president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 87-year-old actor met with Trump in the Oval Office on Monday, alongside SP Media Group film producers Steven Paul and Scott Karol, to discuss federal tax breaks for Hollywood.
