Over 175 House Democrats supported the measure, which passed 370-48, funding the government through December 11. democrats previously opposed similar funding patches but backed this one due to specific provisions, such as avoiding federal grants and restrictions on transferring funds for immigration enforcement. Despite broad support, 19 Republicans opposed the measure over issues like delays in banning hemp-derived products and restrictions on the governance’s ability to cancel grants. Some GOP members were unhappy with the bill being advanced under suspension, an expedited process requiring a larger majority, and others expressed concerns about provisions they felt favored partisan interests or lacked sufficient oversight. The opposition could impact other legislative priorities, as some Republican leaders threaten to withhold votes on procedural rules related to the bill. Key objections from lawmakers include concerns over funding for Planned Parenthood, hemp product regulations, and perceived political motives behind the legislation. If the current procedural rules are not followed, it might also prevent the House from passing a resolution condemning socialism before the upcoming recess.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) got help from the other side of the aisle on Tuesday to pass a stopgap funding bill to head off a government shutdown ahead of the November elections.

More than 175 House Democrats supported the funding patch to fund the government through Dec. 11, with the measure passing 370-48.
