Leading figures like Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Rep. Jamie raskin openly discuss plans for investigations, court ethics reforms, and court-packing initiatives to alter the court\u2019s conservative composition. Whitehouse has voiced intentions to launch extensive investigations into the justices and promote measures such as 18-year term limits,including retroactively applying them. Democrats also support increasing the number of justices from nine to thirteen, which woudl give liberals a majority. These actions are viewed by critics as political power plays aimed at undermining public trust and attacking the court\u2019s legitimacy, especially as the left reacted negatively to recent decisions and overturned activist rulings like Roe v.Wade. Ultimately,the Democrats\u2019 strategy is seen as an effort to transform the court and retaliate against conservative rulings,employing antagonistic tactics and threats against the justices.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Democrats are planning to do a lot of radical things if given control of Congress this fall. But at the top of that list is none other than to destroy the U.S. Supreme Court. <\/p>\n<p>Throughout the past several days, leading Democrats have espoused support for varying measures aimed at targeting the high court\u2019s conservative justices and the court\u2019s makeup. <\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/sheldon-whitehouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sheldon Whitehouse<\/a>, D-R.I., kicked things off on Saturday while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J8aF1hlaTNU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speaking<\/a> to Iowa Democrats in Des Moines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bleedingheartland.com\/2026\/09\/01\/sheldon-whitehouse-outlines-agenda-for-dem-controlled-judiciary-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alongside<\/a> Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/08\/17\/while-trying-to-avoid-court-packing-question-jeffries-all-but-admits-he-supports-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">major proponent<\/a> of packing the Supreme Court. Throughout his roughly 15-minute diatribe, the Ocean State\u2019s junior senator said that he and Raskin \u2014 both leading Democrats on the House and Senate Judiciary Committees \u2014 are already colluding on how to maximize their investigative power, and that one of their main targets will be the high court. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re gonna put a lot of attention right away to the Supreme Court \u2026We need to do a lot of investigating because not enough people know the story about how this court got captured by a bunch of creepy right-wing billionaires,\u201d Whitehouse said while echoing <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/07\/democrats-ethics-smears-against-thomas-and-alito-are-so-embarrassing-they-buried-their-own-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conspiracies<\/a> he\u2019s previously promoted about the high court.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>\ud83d\udea8 Sheldon Whitehouse says that if Dems win the Senate and he becomes Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, he will immediately launch an endless series of witch hunts against the Supreme Court&#8217;s conservative justices:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are going to turn a lot of attention right away on the\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4QWG6rqTPB\">pic.twitter.com\/4QWG6rqTPB<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Greg Price (@greg_price11) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/greg_price11\/status\/2094127410119655487?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 30, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Seemingly based off dishonest media hit jobs against the conservative justices\u2019 finances, Whitehouse went on to signal his intent to enact a Supreme Court \u201cethics program\u201d should Democrats retake the Senate. He further espoused support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-up-pressure-on-supreme-court-with-bill-adding-six-justices-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"... up pressure on ... with bill adding six ... - Washington Examiner\">implementing 18-year term limits<\/a> for all justices, which he added would apply retroactively.<\/p>\n<p>Whitehouse has served as one of Senate Democrats\u2019 leading attack dogs against the Supreme Court\u2019s conservative justices over the past few years. While the party\u2019s allies at ProPublica and the New York Times launched frivolous hatchet jobs against Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, the Rhode Island senator led the investigative charge in the upper chamber \u2014 an embarrassing effort that amounted to a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/07\/democrats-ethics-smears-against-thomas-and-alito-are-so-embarrassing-they-buried-their-own-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">total nothingburger report<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>But Whitehouse is hardly the only Democrat forecasting his party\u2019s intent to wage war on the high court. <\/p>\n<p>Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C. \u2014 who would be out of a job next year if not for South Carolina Republicans\u2019 redistricting <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/26\/by-sabotaging-redistricting-south-carolina-republicans-beg-voters-to-hand-them-the-pink-slip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cowardice<\/a> \u2014 appeared on NBC News\u2019 <em>Meet the Press<\/em> the following day to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/transcripts\/meet-press-august-30-2026-rcna595113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voice support<\/a> for increasing the number of justices from nine to 13. Adding four additional justices would conveniently give leftists an outright majority on the court. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFormer Vice President Kamala Harris shares some of your criticisms, clearly. She\u2019s called for expanding the Supreme Court from nine justices to 13. Do you support adding four more seats to the Supreme Court, Congressman?\u201d left-wing host Kristen Welker asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I do. I think that we are in a position now that calls from some significant actions taken by the Congress, and we ought to expand \u2014 and 13 is a pretty good number,\u201d Clyburn replied. <\/p>\n<p>Clyburn\u2019s remarks come weeks after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries appeared on the same program to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/08\/17\/while-trying-to-avoid-court-packing-question-jeffries-all-but-admits-he-supports-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all but guarantee<\/a> Democrats will move to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/court-packing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pack<\/a> the Supreme Court if given power this November. The New York leftist said that Raskin and other court-packing supporters on the House Judiciary Committee \u201care going to take the lead on what dramatic reform of the Supreme Court looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ:[READ:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/01\/dems-revive-court-packing-threats-after-being-told-they-cant-do-racist-gerrymandering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dems Revive Court-Packing Threats After Being Told They Can\u2019t Do Racist Gerrymandering<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contrary to their claims otherwise, Democrats\u2019 gambit is nothing more than a power play designed to cripple public trust in the court and ultimately change its makeup for political gain. <\/p>\n<p>For decades, leftists used the high court as an avenue to shoehorn their policy agenda into law via activist rulings (see <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> and the concocted \u201cconstitutional right\u201d to abortion). Now, because they no longer have ideological control of the court and those activist rulings are being overturned, the left has resorted to attacking SCOTUS and its conservative members. This also includes <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/10\/warnocks-violence-smears-against-scotus-invite-more-leftist-attacks-on-its-justices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">threats of left-wing violence<\/a>, which have become a persistent theme since the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/18\/explosive-report-as-dobbs-majority-faced-death-threats-liberal-justices-slow-walked-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leak<\/a> of the court\u2019s 2022 <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision. <\/p>\n<p>A vote for Democrats this November doesn\u2019t just reward these kinds of repulsive and dishonest tactics.
