Debates over deploying driverless cars like Waymo in Washington, D.C., amid concerns about traffic congestion, security risks, and national security, especially with vehicles possibly sending data to foreign countries like China and the Philippines.

3. Challenges of autonomous vehicles navigating D.C.’s complex environment, including VIP visits, protests, road closures, and security measures that could cause traffic jams or vehicle freezes.

4. Technological and security measures Waymo employs, including remote assistance from abroad, but authorities express caution over cybersecurity and foreign manufacturing of robotaxis.

5. The upcoming D.C. city council vote on allowing driverless ride-hailing services, with experts questioning their safety and security in such a unique environment.

6. Political developments, including the potential impact of a Republican midterm convention, which might reinforce voters already inclined to turn out, and concerns about influence of dark money in elections.

7.
