Rescue efforts are hampered by debris and challenging terrain, but teams remain hopeful thanks to maps indicating safe zones inside the tunnels. Nepal has deployed approximately 21,000 personnel in rescue operations, with assistance from Chinese and Indian teams. The floods were triggered by a massive glacier break, which caused a debris flow initially mistaken for an earthquake. Many foreigners, including at least 85 Americans, are among those missing. Some of the bodies were recovered 150 miles from ground zero of the flood, which swept away thousands on Wednesday.
