Under the new policies, schools are required to share all gender support plans with parents and cease creating plans that hide such information. The Department of Education has taken action to enforce FERPA and Title IX, threatening to revoke federal funding from districts that continue to conceal students\u2019 gender identities and allow inappropriate access to facilities or participation in sports based on claimed gender. While some districts, like Olathe and Shawnee Mission, have refused compliance, others have been held accountable. Several states, including California and washington, have been criticized for allegedly ongoing violations of parental rights. The administration has highlighted concerns about <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >social influences promoting gender dysphoria<\/a> among youth and argues that responsible adults, especially parents, should have the primary role in raising their children. these efforts aim to ensure transparency and uphold parental authority over their children\u2019s gender-related decisions in schools.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that it followed through on its vow to uphold parental rights in public schools. Under the leadership of U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, the administration has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/trump-administration-announces-additional-actions-protect-parental-rights-kansas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">put an end<\/a> to the Topeka Public School District\u2019s gross violation of parental rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  <\/p>\n<p>The department announced a resolution with the district that prioritizes parental rights over \u201cgender transition\u201d initiatives perpetrated by school staffers. Educators are no longer allowed to create \u201cgender support plans\u201d for students, and all previously created plans must be shared with parents.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, school leaders had instructed educators to conceal information about students\u2019 so-called \u201cgender identity\u201d from their parents. Trump\u2019s Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO) is now intervening in teacher and administrator training programs to ensure observance of a strict understanding of parental rights. Every school policy that barred parents from information about their children will be removed under the threat of losing federal funding, according to an agreement SPPO reached with the Topeka Public School District.<\/p>\n<p>In March, McMahon sent letters to state superintendents across the nation, \u201creminding them of their compliance obligations under FERPA. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentprivacy.ed.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/resource_document\/file\/Secretary_Comb_SPPO_DCL_Annual%20Notice_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letters<\/a>, McMahon reminded the schools that \u201cby natural right and moral authority, parents are the primary protectors of their children.\u201d In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-education-finds-four-kansas-school-districts-violated-federal-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">April 2026<\/a>, the U.S. Department of Education exposed four Kansas school districts for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ethics-watchdog-calls-for-probe-into-house-democrat-kim-schriers-stock-transactions\/\" title=\"Ethics Watchdog Calls for Probe into House Democrat Kim Schrier&#039;s Stock Transactions\">allegedly violating federal law<\/a>; each had policies that allowed schools to conceal children\u2019s so-called \u201cgender transition\u201d from their parents. <\/p>\n<p>Under school policy, children were allowed to use different names and inaccurate pronouns without notifying parents, \u201ceven if the parent requested their child\u2019s records.\u201d In some cases, school diplomas were printed with trans-identifying students\u2019 new names, the department said, blindsiding parents who had intentionally been left in the dark.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Kansas school districts were allegedly violating Title IX by enforcing policies that allowed men in female restrooms and locker rooms, and some of the districts let male students participate in female sports based on claimed identities. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-education-takes-action-against-four-kansas-school-districts-continued-violations-of-title-ix\">June<\/a>, the Office of Civil Rights issued an enforcement letter to four districts, giving them 10 days to comply with federal law.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the Trump administration\u2019s success with the Topeka Public School District, the Olathe and Shawnee Mission Public School Districts have reportedly refused to comply with federal law. The Department of Education announced its intent to pursue \u201cenforcement measures\u201d against these districts, potentially removing their federal funding.<\/p>\n<p>Several states are still trying to derail the Trump administration\u2019s attempts to secure parental rights. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-education-demands-clarity-california-and-washington-plans-revise-transgender-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Both Washington and California<\/a> have refused to provide updates on their compliance with FERPA. Both states appear to have continued to hide students\u2019 trans-identifications from their parents, even in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/25pdf\/25a810_b97d.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Mirabelli v. Bonta<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em>which reaffirmed that parents have priority over public schools in raising their children. This year, lawsuits reprimanding schools for violating parental rights have cropped up in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3815544\/judge-allows-parents-lawsuit-school-gender-identity-change-to-proceed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michigan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lakemchenryscanner.com\/2026\/05\/15\/lawsuit-says-algonquin-based-district-300-transitioned-students-gender-without-informing-mother-continued-plan-despite-her-objection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Illinois<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/virginia-school-district-sued-over-alleged-policy-keeping-students-gender-transitions-hidden-from-parents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virginia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/trump-administration-cracks-down-school-districts-secretly-transitioning-students-and-hiding-it-parents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anne Arundel Public School system<\/a> in Maryland was caught \u201csecretly helping\u201d a girl \u201cpretend to be a male at school,\u201d referring to her by a different name and male pronouns. Parents only discovered that the school was encouraging her to transition after receiving an email where she was referred to as a \u201che.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In January, the Department of Education announced it found a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-education-finds-california-department-of-education-violated-federal-law-hiding-students-gender-transitions-parents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">300<\/a> students in California whom schools had put on \u201cgender support plans.\u201d At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/jun\/25\/mother-wins-appeals-court-ruling-ny-school-concealing-daughters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Skaneateles Central School District<\/a> in New York, school staffers persuaded a seventh-grade girl to use different pronouns at school than at home. Although her parents pulled her from the school, school officials continued to meet with her without parental knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>For parents preparing to send their children back to school this autumn, the Trump administration\u2019s action in Kansas is a victory to celebrate and \u2014 replicate. The left often argues that trans-identifying students represent a very small minority of any school\u2019s population, but \u201cgender dysphoria\u201d in teenagers is typically the result of peer pressure and cultural encouragement. Usually, kids first learn about it <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/2024.10.16-023520\/https:\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article?id=10.1371\/journal.pone.0202330%23pone.0202330.ref037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online<\/a>, with platforms like TikTok and Instagram glamorizing the \u201ctrans lifestyle.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>For easily impressionable young people, it is often easier to make the absurd claim that they were \u201cborn in the wrong body\u201d than to deal with the discomfort of puberty. As a result, they begin pretending to be the opposite sex in the one place where they think their parents can\u2019t see them: School.<\/p>\n<p>When leftist teachers encourage students to change their gender, names, and pronouns, they are giving young people permission to deny reality. The social contagion can only be stopped when responsible adults interfere for the good of those young people.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration\u2019s success in Kansas is a concrete example of adults in government doing just that. FERPA was designed to protect families, whereas left-wing educators attempted to skirt it to divide families and foment lies.
