She appeared to be in a questionable mental state and claimed her actions were intended to draw attention to alleged misconduct by a former employer in Kentucky. Farris was charged with destruction of a veterans\u2019 memorial and federal property, each carrying a sentence of up to 10 years. She was arrested, released pending trial, and is scheduled for arraignment on September 3. After being accused of defacing the monument on Aug. 13, she turned herself in to authorities, according to prosecutors. She was subsequently released from jail before her trial, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4691156\/judge-release-wwii-memorial-vandal\/\">over the protest<\/a> of prosecutors who worried she had \u201ca history of criminal misconduct and non-compliance with court orders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities say the Kentucky native caused more than $1,000 in damage.
