The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >scheme involved generating fabricated meal counts<\/a> to unlawfully receive funds, with the defendants falsely claiming to serve thousands of children daily at various sites. Ahmed received 54 months, Ghedi 65 months, and Omar-Hashim 36 months, all having pleaded guilty. Prosecutors highlighted that the scheme caused over $7 million in losses per defendant, exploiting a program intended to aid children. Ahmed, Ghedi, and their co-conspirators falsely claimed to be serving 2,000 to 3,000 children each day, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From September 2020 to September 2021, the site falsely claimed more than 1.6 million meals. A roster listed 2,040 purported participants, but only about 20 names matched children in the St. Cloud school district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Federal prosecutors have charged about 80 people in the broader case, the vast majority of whom are of Somali descent.
