Talarico defended the Texas Democrat-led walkout in 2021 to block election reforms, which included mail-in ballot ID requirements.His Republican opponent, Ken Paxton, has vigorously defended these laws against lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>Talarico claims voter fraud is nonexistent in Texas, but evidence suggests or else, including cases involving voter fraud convictions like Monica Mendez&#8217;s vote-harvesting scheme and other incidents documented by the heritage Foundation. Moreover, Talarico may have violated election laws himself by using his mother\u2019s address to register to vote and run for office-an allegation supported by records showing he purchased a home in the district he intended to represent.<\/p>\n<p>He has also made controversial statements, such as asserting God is nonbinary and claiming ther are six genders. Additionally, Talarico has dismissed concerns about issues like men competing in women\u2019s sports, which polls show most Americans oppose. Critics, including endorsements from figures like Riley Gaines, label him a far-left extremist and an election fraud denier. Talarico&#8217;s stances and conduct suggest a disregard for election integrity and realistic political norms.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/23\/exclusive-james-talarico-described-himself-as-a-christian-who-hates-christianity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James Talarico<\/a> is no friend of election integrity. The Texas Democrat candidate for Senate has shown his distaste for tighter election security time and time again. <\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Talarico told then-Fox News host Pete Hegseth \u2014 now Trump\u2019s Secretary of War, \u201cI oppose voter ID.\u201d He\u2019s in the minority. The vast majority of American voters <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinwatch.org\/2026\/02\/voter-id-americans-support-wisconsin-poll-photo-identification\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(80%-plus)<\/a> support laws requiring identification to vote. <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>The state representative has defended the Texas House Democrats\u2019 political temper tantrum in 2021 when they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2021\/07\/12\/texas-democrats-voting-bill-quorum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fled to Washington, D.C.<\/a> to temporarily deny majority Republicans a quorum to pass an election law reform package. It was an empty act of political theater; the legislature ultimately passed the <a href=\"https:\/\/thetexan.news\/elections\/federal-appeals-court-restores-texas-mail-ballot-requirements-election-integrity-measures\/article_7fcf13ec-2dea-41af-bd58-1215aced8a0c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Texas Election Integrity Act,<\/a> which included ID requirements for mail-in ballots, among a host of other election security provisions. Talarico called the law \u201cimmoral,\u201d \u201canti-American,\u201d and \u201canti-democratic.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>His Republican opponent, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/08\/report-9-suspects-including-multiple-democrat-officials-indicted-for-voter-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton<\/a>, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/news\/releases\/attorney-general-paxton-secures-legal-victory-upholding-id-requirements-mail-ballots-and-other\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vehemently defended<\/a> the law from a multi-front barrage of leftist lawsuits. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">FLASHBACK: Democrat Nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas James Talarico says he hates Voter ID with every fiber of his being and calls it Anti-American. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Hg077f6dlq\">pic.twitter.com\/Hg077f6dlq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 America (@america) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/america\/status\/2091918267577413828?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>\u2018Voter Fraud is Nonexistent\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Like his comrades in the ever left-lurching Democratic Party, Talarico is an election integrity denier. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoter fraud is nonexistent in Texas,\u201d the Senate hopeful said in an exclusively unearthed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7meqiXXv_BU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a> from his June 2021 appearance on the Austin Chamber of Commerce\u2019s 87th Texas Legislative Session Webinar Recap. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on all of the data, based on all of the evidence, everything that you look at, Texans don\u2019t commit voter fraud,\u201d he asserted, adding that \u201cyou are likely to get struck by lightning than to commit voter fraud in the state of Texas.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He was lying, of course. <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Photo Credit: Austin Chamber of Commerce<\/p>\n<p>Talarico likely knew about Monica Mendez, a southeast Texas woman convicted of 26 felony counts of election fraud. The charges stemmed from a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/executive-management\/Superseding%20Indictment%20-%20Victoria.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vote-harvesting operation<\/a> she orchestrated on behalf of a subsidized housing corporation to sway the outcome of a 2018 utility board election in Victoria County,\u201d the Dallas Express <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/state\/texas-woman-pleads-guilty-to-26-counts-of-voter-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Or how about that Gregg County illegal <a href=\"https:\/\/electionfraud.heritage.org\/case\/201460\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ballot harvesting scheme<\/a> during the 2018 Democratic primary for Longview City Council? That was a widely covered voter fraud case. <\/p>\n<p>There have been many other incidents before and since in the Lone Star State, according to the Heritage Foundation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/electionfraud.heritage.org\/case\/201699\">Election Frau<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/electionfraud.heritage.org\/case\/201699\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">d<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/electionfraud.heritage.org\/case\/201699\">  Map,<\/a> including the 2024 conviction of Zul Mirza Mohamed. He was charged with 106 felonies after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-leftists-rally-against-rednecks-backfires\/\" title=\"... Leftist&#039;s &#039;Rally Against Rednecks&#039; Backfires\">forging absentee ballot request applications<\/a> for registered voters, Heritage\u2019s database notes. Mohamed was a candidate for mayor in Carrolton. <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Violated State Voting Laws\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>But Talarico may need look no further for examples of election fraud than his mirror. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/28\/exclusive-mamas-boy-talarico-appears-to-have-broken-texas-election-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first reported<\/a>, records show Talarico used his mother\u2019s Austin address to register to vote in order to launch a campaign for a Texas House seat in a Dem-friendly district\u2014 an apparent violation of Texas election law. <\/p>\n<p>In early December 2021 (<a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Ballotpedia's_Daily_Brew_12-02-2021:_Survey_response_4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eight days before<\/a> the candidate filing deadline), the Democrat registered to vote at his mother\u2019s home address in Austin, according to Texas voter registration files. The House district he had represented had been redrawn, making the seat much harder to hold for a Democrat. There\u2019s no evidence, sources say, that Talarico lived at his mother\u2019s home during the period. Even if he did, the candidate would have to have resided there for at least a year before launching his House campaign. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/tcss.legis.texas.gov\/resources\/CN\/pdf\/CN.3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Texas Constitution<\/a> is clear: Candidates running for Texas House seats must have resided in the state for two years prior to the election, and at least one year in the districts they\u2019re running to represent. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Republicans have gerrymandered me out of my district.<\/p>\n<p>If they think they can keep me off the House floor, they better think again.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m grateful to everyone urging me to move back to HD50\u2014where I grew up\u2014to run for the seat being vacated by my friend Rep Israel.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m in. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/txlege?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#txlege<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Kbv1RdNq8G\">pic.twitter.com\/Kbv1RdNq8G<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 James Talarico (@jamestalarico) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jamestalarico\/status\/1448383653172613126?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In 2022, after running in the party primary and listing his mother\u2019s address on his election forms, Talarico purchased a home in Austin\u2019s Windsor Hills neighborhood, according to documents reviewed by The Federalist. Situated between I-35, Braker Lane, Dessau Road, and Rundberg Lane, this property is within the boundaries of Texas\u2019 50th House District. The three-bedroom property, built in 1972, boasts an assessed value of $407,500.<\/p>\n<p>Houston Public Media earlier this month <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/news\/politics\/election-2026\/2026\/08\/05\/558688\/texas-senate-james-talarico-election-law-residency-ken-paxton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that the Senate candidate \u201cvoted in five elections using his parents\u2019 address after purchasing a home for himself nearby, a practice that may have violated state voting laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Talarico has accused Paxton of illegally voting in elections from the \u201cwrong address,\u201d an accusation the Republican denies. <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Far-Left Extremist\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Talarico, who has claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox7austin.com\/news\/james-talarico-says-atheists-more-christ-like-than-christian-colleagues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">God is nonbinary<\/a> and that there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2026-election\/james-talarico-says-missed-mark-cringey-comments-texas-general-electio-rcna347174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">six genders,<\/a> compared voter fraud to men in women\u2019s sports, \u201ca solution in search of a problem.\u201d In the same Chamber of Commerce video, Talarico said Republicans in the 2021 session were engaged in \u201csilly\u201d debates about two issues that didn\u2019t matter. <\/p>\n<p>They matter a great deal to the Texans he hopes to represent in the U.S. Senate. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/politics-news\/poll-americans-oppose-trans-women-competing-female-sports-2-3-gen-z-rcna203658\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Polls<\/a> show most Americans don\u2019t want males competing in female sports. On Thursday, Riley Gaines, former NCAA swimmer and prominent advocate for women in athletics, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/outkick-sports\/riley-gaines-endorses-ken-paxton-senate-cites-fight-protect-womens-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">endorsed<\/a> Paxton, describing Talarico as a \u201cfar-left extremist who has refused to accept biological reality.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s had trouble with the reality of voter fraud, too. <\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s to be expected from an election integrity denier.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Matt Kittle is a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist.
