Tom Tiffany (R-WI), the GOP candidate for Wisconsin governor, dismissed President Trump&#8217;s recent executive order to rename Lake Ontario as &#8220;Lake America,&#8221; joking that he would prefer to rename Lake Michigan as &#8220;Lake Wisconsin.&#8221; Tiffany emphasized that the Great Lakes should <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >retain thier traditional names<\/a>, stating, &#8220;The Great Lakes are the Great Lakes.&#8221; He clarified that his remark was made in jest but reaffirmed the importance of keeping the lakes&#8217; names as they are. His comments came shortly after Trump signed the order amidst escalating trade tensions with Canada, wich involved tariffs and retaliations following failed trade negotiations. Canada\u2019s government responded by reaffirming that they will continue to call it Lake Ontario.
