Socialist state Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4691627\/florida-senate-alex-vindman-angie-nixon\/\">Angie Nixon shocked Democrats<\/a> last week when she bested establishment-backed former Trump whistleblower Alex Vindman by an eye-popping 12 points, even after consistently trailing in the polls and being outraised 16 to 1.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-15\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/scholars.unh.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1987&#038;context=survey_center_polls\">latest survey<\/a> from the University of New Hampshire, Manzur garnered 34% to Pappas\u2019s 47%. Pappas, a four-term congressman, had raised nearly $13.4 million through the end of June compared to Manzur\u2019s less than $207,000. In a general election matchup, GOP front-runner John E. Sununu led Pappas 45%-43%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manzur\u2019s continued gains ahead of the Sept. 8 primary are \u201cfueled by strong support from socialist and younger voters,\u201d according to the poll\u2019s authors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Manzur campaign said her \u201csurge reflects growing grassroots support across New Hampshire for her message of honesty, peace, democracy, and prosperity for all people, and her call to end war profiteering.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am fighting to deliver livable wages, affordable housing, and Medicare for All,\u201d Manzur said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pappas campaign declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a social media video promoting her polling climb, the scientist and progressive activist said she is running a \u201ctrue grassroots campaign\u201d that has done no ads or mailers \u201cbecause we can\u2019t afford it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manzur is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and has focused her campaign on economic inequality, universal healthcare, and ending what she calls a \u201cgenocide\u201d in Gaza that she accuses Democrats such as Pappas and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) of enabling. But she has distanced herself from some of the group\u2019s platform, including a call to abolish the very chamber she is seeking to serve in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI cannot answer for other people,\u201d Manzur said in a recent <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/clip\/campaign-2026\/manzur-on-dsa-and-senate-abolition-i-cannot-answer-for-other-people\/5204217\">C-Span interview<\/a> when asked about abolishing the Senate. \u201cWhy should I respond to somebody who happens to be a member of the DSA? I\u2019m a member of the Democratic Party. I don\u2019t have to be burdened with answering or excusing questions asked by other people in the Democratic Party. Whether intentional or not, they may already have been influencing Democratic primary voters by running general-election-style ads against Pappas on loop for months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the reality is national Republicans are already bullish about flipping the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) with Pappas as the nominee, despite nonpartisan forecasters giving Democrats a slight edge.
