Chuck Edwards (R-NC) has defended his actions involving gifts, poems, and compliments to female staffers, claiming his behavior was misinterpreted as sexual harassment. The House Ethics Committee recommended censure after investigating allegations that he engaged in inappropriate conduct, wich Edwards denies, asserting that the committee\u2019s report exaggerated the allegations by interpreting friendly interactions as misconduct. He emphasized that expressions of affection, gifts, and socializing are not indicative of sexual harassment and criticized the Committee for selectively using evidence. Edwards provided extensive documentation to support his case,arguing that the evidence does not substantiate misconduct. However, he said the committee \u201ctraveled\u201d from dismissing those claims to \u201cone of the most damaging characterizations that can be attached to a Member of Congress: sexual harassment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMembers should stop and consider the extraordinary distance between those two points,\u201d he said. \u201cThe report repeatedly relies upon interactions that it says \u2018could be interpreted as romantic.\u2019 But something that could be interpreted as romantic is worlds apart from establishing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/third-woman-accuses-cuomo-of-making-unwanted-sexual-advances-at-wedding\/\" title=\"Third Woman Accuses Cuomo Of Making Unwanted Sexual Advances At Wedding\">unwanted sexual advance<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAn affectionate friendship is not a sexual proposition,\u201d he continued. \u201cA gift is not sexual misconduct. A compliment is not sexual misconduct. Poetry is not sexual misconduct. Socializing with a colleague is not sexual misconduct. Inference is not evidence. And selective context is not totality.
