Many of the missing include foreign nationals,including at least 47 Americans and 133 from India traveling for a Hindu pilgrimage in Tibet. The disaster possibly resulted from an avalanche triggered by a glacier on Nepal\u2019s side. Simultaneously, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake was reported near Kathmandu. The region experienced similar flooding in August 2025 from a Tibetan glacial lake overflow caused by high temperatures. International responses include aid offers from India and expressions of solidarity from Australia, the UK, EU countries, and others, with the U.S. advising citizens to avoid the area.
