One is Dan J. Sullivan Jr., a retired schoolteacher and former Democrat running as a Republican; he secured a top-four spot out of 16 candidates. The incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, who is seeking a third term, finished second wiht just under 43%, while another candidate, the second sullivan, placed third with less than 2.5%. The rivalry between the two Sullivans has led too legal challenges, with efforts to disqualify the second sullivan from the ballot, but these were unsuccessful. The race between Mary Peltola, a former Democratic Rep. who received 48% of the vote, and Dan Sullivan is considered a competitive &#8220;toss-up&#8221; that could influence Senate control.
