Protesters gained national attention in April and May 2024 by unlawfully setting up a three-week encampment, obstructing and assaulting people on campus, and drawing messages such as \u201ckill your local colonizer\u201d on campus property, according to multiple reports. Activists have continued heaping scorn on the university for supposed financial ties to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\/\">Israel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university reached a resolution with former President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\">Joe Biden\u2019s<\/a> Education Department in January 2025 that <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1FaRYwAmgGhnY6Qh55TpeQwTuryLWwdcu\/view\">found no wrongdoing<\/a> in the school\u2019s response to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/antisemitism\/\">antisemitism<\/a>, an agreement the Trump administration called lenient.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-changing-attitudes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Changing attitudes<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concealing one\u2019s identity \u201cwhile engaging in prohibited conduct\u201d would be an aggravating factor in determining discipline under the university\u2019s proposed rules. Hindering law enforcement and campus officials \u201cin the performance of their duties\u201d would be added to \u201cprohibited conduct.\u201d Publicizing one\u2019s private information to incite various harms against them, sometimes called doxing, would also become prohibited conduct.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who occupy university property without permission could be held accountable, regardless of whether they participated in banned conduct, if they refused orders to leave, according to the proposals. They also expand the meaning of \u201cvandalism\u201d to mean \u201cintentionally or recklessly damaging, defacing, destroying,\u00a0or misusing university property, or the property of\u00a0others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university already allows officials to withhold degrees, transcripts, and course registration from students under pending misconduct proceedings or final sanctions.
