The designations in question impacted business leaders and firms operating out of China, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Turkey, and Greece.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bessent said the new sanctions initiative will be called \u201cOperation Economic Outcast\u201d and that it will also target banks and companies helping to launder Iranian money. And if people do not want to meet our expectations, then they should expect that they will leave the dollar system,\u201d Bessent concluded Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A source familiar with the initiative told the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>the United States has \u201cmapped Iran\u2019s oil-smuggling and sanctions-evasion network\u201d to ensure the secondary sanctions are as effective as possible. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/treasury-department\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"3544\">Treasury Department<\/a> plans to issue the sanctions in waves, with an initial list of countries targeted immediately.
