Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The administration proposed incorporating Trump\u2019s name into the center\u2019s signage and grounds, including calling it \u201cThe President Donald J. Trump Plaza\u201d and later \u201cThe John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, renovated and restored by President Donald J. Trump, endowed by the Trump Kennedy Center Fund,\u201d after reaching a $100 million endowment. The Kennedy Center\u2019s Board of Trustees announced these plans to the court but also stated they would honor Trump\u2019s contributions by calling the facility the renamed titles.<\/p>\n<p>Beatty argues these actions violate the Kennedy center statute, which mandates the center be named solely after President Kennedy. She is seeking a temporary stay and permanent injunction against the name changes. The center\u2019s board also voted to close for two years for renovations, prompting additional legal challenges from Beatty, who criticizes the process as rushed and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >lacking proper decision-making procedures<\/a>. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts<\/a> overnight, arguing their new plan crosses a boundary as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a series of back-to-back overnight filings, representatives for the Kennedy Center told the court that they would not be renaming the performing arts center the Trump-Kennedy Center, but would instead incorporate President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"4\">Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> name in several other ways. Trump Plaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beatty, an ex officio member of the board, has challenged the Trump administration in court over each step of its plans to change the facility\u2019s name and to close the center for renovations. Her lawyers swiftly followed the center\u2019s notification to the court on Thursday with a filing of their own challenging the new plans for the building\u2019s facade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese actions are clear violations of the Kennedy Center statute as interpreted by the Court in its May 29, 2026, decision, in which the Court held that \u2018the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the Board\u2019s unilateral say-so,&#8217;\u201d Beatty\u2019s lawyers wrote in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972.67.0.pdf\">filing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beatty asked for a temporary stay and permanent injunction on the center\u2019s plans to rename the facility and its grounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vice President of the Kennedy Center\u2019s Board Relations and Government Affairs Joseph LaFauci <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972.66.1_1.pdf\">wrote<\/a> to the court that the above plan for the name is what the board decided on at its Aug. 13 meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In that same board meeting, Kennedy Center board officials voted to move forward with <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/entertainment\/4686487\/kennedy-center-board-vote-two-year-closure-renovations\/\">closing the facility for two years<\/a> to undergo a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/entertainment\/4539086\/inside-look-kennedy-center-two-year-renovation\/\">massive structural construction project<\/a>. Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper had told the center earlier in the year that they could not move forward with the closure because they had \u201cfallen grossly short of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972\/gov.uscourts.dcd.287972.50.0_5.pdf\">prudent decision-making<\/a>\u201d in its first closure vote, but he did not rule out the possibility of a closure with the proper forethought.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an August 18 status update, the Center\u2019s board told the court that they incorporated a presentation from \u201can independent analyst from the Delta Consulting Group\u201d to share the facility\u2019s renovation options in their Aug. 13 meeting.
