However, the case has ignited an intense online controversy, with many social media users and public figures, including Candace Owens, defending Clancy and proposing conspiracy theories that ignore the straightforward facts.Some supporters express empathy by sharing emotional stories and even gathering outside the courtroom,reflecting a broader societal phenomenon of exaggerated empathy,especially among young leftist women.This attitude correlates with high rates of mental health issues and antidepressant prescriptions in this demographic, as per a 2020 pew survey. Critics argue that this culture of toxic empathy and mental health struggles contributes to irrational defenses of individuals like Clancy, despite the evidence of her guilt.The case highlights concerns about mental health, societal attitudes, and the potential for more similar tragedies in the future if unresolved.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Lindsay Clancy murder trial seems to be an open and shut case. Her attorney freely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/boston\/live-updates\/lindsay-clancy-trial-live-updates-patrick-clancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admits<\/a> that she did indeed strangle her three children to death. That should be it, right? She\u2019s found guilty after a short trial and sent to prison (although she deserves far worse).<\/p>\n<p>Yet this case has become an internet firestorm. TikTok-addicted women, itching for the chance to be the amateur sleuth who breaks open the case like in their favorite true crime podcasts, have spun all kinds of conspiracies trying to exonerate Clancy. <\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve come up with a range of bizarre theories that ignore the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/videos\/davis-the-lindsay-clancy-case-reveals-americans-are-increasingly-unable-to-discern-basic-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plain facts<\/a> of the case, from the classic \u201cher husband did it and gaslit her\u201d to the theory that she\u2019s the victim of a deliberate scheme concocted by a cabal of nefarious doctors. Even the queen of conspiracy-mongering herself, Candace Owens, has come out in defense of Clancy, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KanekoaTheGreat\/status\/2090549652051677511\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declaring her<\/a> \u201cobviously not guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, many women have taken to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ImMeme0\/status\/2090274334245855310\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media<\/a> to sympathize with Clancy. Videos showing women <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ImMeme0\/status\/2090556165612564494\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">breaking down<\/a> because of the hardship of raising young children with the text \u201cSame, Lindsay\u201d or <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LukaLev\/status\/2090057191566823888\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">throwing ice<\/a> into the bathtub to vent pent-up rage have gone viral over the last week. A group of women have even <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JackPosobiec\/status\/2090486422725644765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gathered outside<\/a> the courtroom to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EndWokeness\/status\/2090428303970562133\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">show support<\/a> for Clancy, with some even bringing their children.<\/p>\n<p>This apparent uptick in psychopathic empathy (we\u2019ve also seen it on issues such as illegal immigration, abortion, etc.) points to a very disturbing and seemingly baffling phenomenon in our society. But it\u2019s the natural outcome of the U.S. mental health crisis, especially among young leftist women. In fact, a single graph can explain the entire Lindsay Clancy defender dynamic.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>You\u2019re reading that headline right. More than half of all leftist white women younger than 30 have been told at some point by a medical provider that they have a mental health issue, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/zDoeH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to<\/a> a Pew American Trends Panel conducted in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not much better for those older than 30, either. Nearly 40 percent of illiberal white women between 30 and 49 have been told the same thing, while more than a quarter of leftist white women between 50 and 64 have. Now, compare that to 27 percent of conservative white women and 28 percent of \u201cmoderate\u201d white women younger than 30 who have been told they have a mental health issue.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, that research was conducted in March 2020, <em>before<\/em> the Covid lockdwns melted so many people\u2019s brains and exacerbated Americans\u2019 mental health issues. We can only speculate how how those percentages are now, six years later. In fact, the support for Clancy may provide a suitable proxy.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that young women are by far the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/649826\/exploring-young-women-leftward-expansion.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">farthest-left<\/a> group in the country, and the picture begins to become clearer. A whole cohort of women in our society are afflicted by mental health issues at a much higher rate than the rest of the population. They\u2019ve become twisted up in tribalistic leftist politics that absolve them of any accountability and convinces them their neuroses are, in fact, virtues. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/14\/we-need-to-have-a-national-conversation-about-toxic-femininity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">toxic empathy<\/a> causes them to defend a whole host of actually evil causes, including the case of a mother who strangled her children.<\/p>\n<p>One argument by Clancy\u2019s defenders \u2014 it\u2019s also her legal defense \u2014 is that she was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/08\/18\/postpartum-depression-or-not-lindsay-clancy-should-be-executed-for-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over-medicated<\/a> to the point of negligence by her doctors, which caused a psychosis that led to her killing her children. Despite what Clancy\u2019s defenders say, this does not free her from culpability, but there is a kernel of truth to this point.<\/p>\n<p>In tandem with the rise of mental issues, the prescription of antidepressants has become a plague unto itself in America. One <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC10621660\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study found<\/a> the nearly 28 percent of women had an antidepressant prescription, compared to 13.5 percent of men. The American Psychological Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/monitor\/2024\/07\/antidepressant-use-girls-women-covid-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that antidepressant usage among young women increased 63.5 percent from March 2020 to December 2022. Antidepressant use for young men did not increase or decrease between the two time periods.<\/p>\n<p>The Clancy murder trial represents just one outlet for the growing mental crisis, especially among young women, in our country. Perhaps more disturbing than the phenomenon itself or its growing political and cultural power is the lack of a ready and obvious solution.
