Discovery. paramount filed for the bond to cover financial losses if a court issues an injunction blocking the merger, which is being challenged by multiple states including California and Arizona, and also the writers Guild of America. Petersen criticized Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, who is seeking re-election,for joining the lawsuit and failing to clarify if taxpayer money might be at risk. He advocates for openness through a public hearing before any taxpayer funds are committed. The lawsuit alleges the merger violates federal antitrust laws by reducing competition and threatening thousands of entertainment jobs. Meanwhile, Paramount accrues significant “ticking fees” each day as it remains unable to close the deal, which could cost over a billion dollars if the case delays the merger until 2027. The case involves several other states also suing to block the merger, citing concerns over consumer protection and industry impact.

EXCLUSIVE — Arizona Republican Senate President Warren Petersen is calling for a public hearing on the potential cost that state taxpayers may have to bear if a court grants Paramount Skydance‘s $1.88 billion bond request in its legal battle against a multistate antitrust lawsuit.

Earlier this week, Paramount filed a motion seeking the hefty bond that would cover the company’s financial losses from an injunction blocking its pending merger with Warner Bros.
