Cory Mills being among those who lost their primaries. Historically, incumbency was an advantage, but currently, Congress faces record-high disapproval ratings-up to 86% in April-and approval ratings as low as 16% in July, largely due to recent government shutdowns. Congress is also passing fewer bills than ever before. Several incumbents from both parties, including Rep. Shri Thanedar and Rep. Dan Crenshaw, have lost re-election bids. Notably, Democratic candidates are being replaced by more progressive, younger, and collage-educated contenders, with the Democratic Socialists of America gaining their largest congressional presence in history. Conversely, many older Republican incumbents have held onto their seats. The article also mentions ongoing investigations into Rep. Mills and other lawmakers, along with various legislative and political developments ahead of upcoming elections.

The 2026 primary election cycle has had the highest number of House incumbent losses in a non-redistricting year in over 50 years.

Republican Florida Rep.
