President Trump\u2019s governance emphasized that these changes seek to shift the focus of accreditation from ideological mandates and bureaucratic processes to student outcomes,affordability,accountability,and workforce readiness. This move follows an executive order addressing concerns about the accreditation system\u2019s entrenchment in DEI policies, which critics argue have led to inflated college costs, lowered standards, and ideological influence in higher education and professional fields like medicine and law. The reform aims to empower the Secretary of Education to recognize more accreditors and curb the power of private trade associations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/more-than-100-faculty-sign-letter-blasting-harvard-president-for-condemning-antisemitism\/\" title=\"More than 100 faculty sign letter blasting Harvard president for condemning antisemitism\">promoting academic freedom<\/a> and research integrity amid alarming issues such as plagiarism scandals and political bias in academia. Notably in medicine, policies influenced by accreditation standards have been linked to lowered trust in physicians and controversial ideas like racial concordance, which many argue threaten merit-based standards and quality of care.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Department of Education on Wednesday announced a new rule that would allow more organizations to accredit universities, stripping the left of one of its most potent tools for enforcing its worldview through higher education.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/24\/trump-admin-targets-university-accreditors-for-their-dei-activism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">set his sights<\/a> on going after accreditors early in his second term, saying having more accreditors \u2014 or limiting current accreditors\u2019 ability to inject left-wing ideologies into the official standards for accreditation \u2014is the \u201csecret weapon\u201d to breaking their stranglehold on American universities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when Americans have lost trust in higher education, the Trump Administration\u2019s proposed changes to the accreditation system are intended to reorient our quality assurance framework so that accreditors prioritize student outcomes rather than bureaucratic processes or the promotion of divisive and unlawful ideological agendas,\u201d\u00a0Under Secretary of Education Nicholas Kent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-education-issues-proposed-rule-overhaul-and-improve-americas-higher-education-accreditation-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in a Wednesday press release.\u00a0\u201cInstead of <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >ensuring institutions offer high-quality educational programs<\/a> that justify the time and cost of a college education, the antiquated accreditation system has contributed to inflated tuition, administrative bloat, and ideology-driven mandates on college campuses. The Department\u2019s proposed changes to our higher education quality assurance system will improve college affordability, reconnect education to workforce needs, strengthen accountability, and restore confidence in our accreditation system.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The proposed rule comes after Trump signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/24\/trump-admin-targets-university-accreditors-for-their-dei-activism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order<\/a> in April 2025 directing the reformation of the accreditation system. The order noted the accreditation groups\u2019 entrenchment in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) ideology, and the ever-increasing costs of going to college.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA group of higher education accreditors are the gatekeepers that decide which colleges and universities American students can spend the more than $100 billion in Federal student loans and Pell Grants dispersed each year,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/04\/reforming-accreditation-to-strengthen-higher-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">order<\/a> reads. \u201cThe accreditors\u2019 job is to determine which institutions provide a quality education \u2014 and therefore merit accreditation. Unfortunately, accreditors have not only failed in this responsibility to students, families, and American taxpayers, but they have also abused their enormous authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome accreditors make the adoption of unlawfully discriminatory practices a formal standard of accreditation, and therefore a condition of accessing Federal aid, through \u2018diversity, equity, and inclusion\u2019 or \u2018DEI\u2019-based standards of accreditation that require institutions to \u2018share results on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the context of their mission by considering \u2026 demographics \u2026 and resource allocation,\u2019\u201d it adds.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s proposed rule will make it easier for the secretary of education to recognize new accreditors and diminish the power of private trade associations to control accreditors. According to the Department of Education, the rule will also \u201cpromote academic freedom, intellectual diversity, and research integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Academic freedom, intellectual diversity, and research integrity may be at all-time lows right now, as plagiarism and fake research scandals have rocked academia for years, while many conservative-minded academics are shut out of consideration for prestigious positions.<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist reported, accreditors for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/05\/13\/medical-school-accreditor-suspends-diversity-requirements-after-trump-executive-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">medical<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/13\/the-american-bar-association-is-unfit-to-accredit-law-schools-and-the-trump-admin-can-stop-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">law<\/a> schools have inflicted significant damage on both professions, requiring things like diversity quotas, racialized trainings for students, and more.<\/p>\n<p>For the medical profession in particular, <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama-health-forum\/fullarticle\/2843194\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trust<\/a> in physicians is at an all-time low. Coming out of the DEI regime enforced by some accreditors and promoted by the Biden administration, some professional medical organizations advanced the idea of \u201cracial concordance\u201d for doctors, meaning they wanted to race-match patients to doctors.<\/p>\n<p>Academics essentially argue that non-white patients must have doctors who have the same skin color to obtain proper treatment. Racial concordance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban.org\/research\/publication\/racially-minoritized-patients-can-benefit-racially-concordant-providers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">benefits<\/a> \u201cminoritized\u201d patients, they say. The argument is a back door to artificially <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/03\/trump-admin-ends-bidens-organ-transplant-by-race-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pumping the numbers<\/a> of non-white students accepted into medical school and thus among the overall number of doctors. <\/p>\n<p>Artificially pumping those numbers in most cases means lowering standards, which is untenable to most Americans who rely on doctors to have the requisite merit to actually be doctors. A similar argument can be made for lawyers, many of whom will be responsible for defending clients against overreach by government entities or corporations.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Breccan F.
