First-time Democratic candidate Hallie Shoffner trails Cotton by just 3 points in the survey conducted by 2040 Strategy Group,with Cotton supported by 51% of voters and shoffner by 35%. Libertarian Jeff Wadlin has 4% support, leaving 11% undecided. Although Cotton&#8217;s lead has narrowed compared to his 33-point victory in 2020, he still maintains a strong advantage, especially among most demographic groups and with high Republican support. The poll suggests Arkansas remains a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-seek-to-revert-ohio-to-swing-state-status\/\" title=\"... seek to revert Ohio to swing state status\">reliably red state<\/a>,with Cotton&#8217;s approval ratings at 52%. A J.L. Partners poll, shared exclusively with <em>Washington Secrets<\/em>, found that Cotton holds a commanding 16-point lead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He won the support of 51% of respondents, ahead of Shoffner on 35%, in the poll of 803 registered voters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Libertarian Jeff Wadlin took 4%, leaving some 11% unsure at this stage of the race.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, Cotton\u2019s lead over Shoeffner is smaller than the 33-point margin by which he won reelection in 2020. That year, Democrats didn\u2019t even bother to run a candidate, leaving Cotton to face off against a Libertarian Party candidate who got 33% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">James Johnson, co-founder of J.L Partners, said, \u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that Democrats are doing better in Arkansas than in 2024 or 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut unlike some of the commentary floating around, this poll shows this is still a red state that the Republicans have on lock, with a double-digit lead,\u201d said Johnson. \u201cArkansas is not in play in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/news\/senate\/\" data-type=\"category\" data-id=\"84\">Senate<\/a> this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democrats need only flip four seats to take control of the Senate this cycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arkansas, which last elected a Democratic senator in 2008, had not been part of the conversation until the shock poll landed in July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, Shoffner\u2019s campaign manager said it showed the seat was flippable.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor so long, the story has been that no one should even try, it doesn\u2019t matter, nothing will ever change,\u201d Shoffner\u2019s campaign manager, Anna-Lee Pittman, told the <em>Arkansas Times<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s why a sitting senator amassed a $10 million war chest, to get everyone else to pre-surrender. But Hallie is not scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The J.L. Partners poll, conducted over the past four days, shows Cotton underperforming the GOP\u2019s 2024 margins in Arkansas. In that cycle, GOP candidates won every U.S. House seat in the state by an average of 36 points. Some 52% of respondents said they \u201csomewhat\u201d or \u201cstrongly\u201d approved of the way he was handling his job as a U.S. senator, compared with 44% who said they disapproved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, 32% said they approved of his Democratic opponent, and 39% disapproved.
