A Gallup poll indicates that only 45% of Americans engaged in any form of gambling in the recent year, down sharply from 64% in 2016, with the overall proportion dropping from about two-thirds in 2003 to less then half in 2026. The decline is especially pronounced among younger demographics and women, with women aged 18-49 being the least likely to gamble. The decrease is also evident among older adults and men, though less dramatically. Interestingly, reports of gambling-induced family problems have increased, reaching the highest levels in over 25 years, with 9% reporting issues. despite less gambling products like Polymarket and Kalshi have seen increased activity, though only a small percentage of individuals (around 7%) have bet on sports recently.
