Wodehouse.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 1990s, when network TV would cold-storage all their terrible shows on Friday night and public broadcasting hadn\u2019t become the insufferable mess it is today, the most watchable thing on network TV \u2014 for we were too far out in the boonies of New Jersey for cable \u2014 were the superb Laurie\/Stephen Fry adaptations of Wodehouse\u2019s \u201cJeeves and Wooster\u201d comic novels, produced by Britain\u2019s ITV but aired by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sick-pbs-bigwig-appears-keep-job-publicly-wishing-stroke-trump-deranged-birthday-message\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PBS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I always found it a bit confusing, therefore, that Dr. Gregory House didn\u2019t speak with a posh English accent.<\/p>\n<p>Both roles speak to the fact that Laurie is one of the great comic talents of his or any generation: a man who could pull off the jovial-but-oblivious idle-rich drone Bertie Wooster and the grimly misanthropic medic House can pull off anything.<\/p>\n<p>He can even pull off figuring out that a man is a man and a woman is a woman and that the former don\u2019t belong in women\u2019s sports. Imagine that!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, that\u2019s gotten him into a spot of trouble, because you can imagine the comments section. People are annoyed that he eventually acknowledged that he stood by WNBA star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/megan-rapinoe-melts-seeing-photo-sophie-cunningham-riley-gaines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sophie Cunningham<\/a> in her battle to keep men out of women\u2019s sports, and boy did that get ugly quickly.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/celebrity\/hugh-laurie-graham-linehan-online-feud-house-star-transgender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GBNews<\/a>, the whole thing began when Laurie got into a spat with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/comedy-writer-arrested-x-posts-doubles-arrives-courthouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Graham Linehan<\/a> \u2014 the Irish creator of great Britcoms like \u201cFather Ted\u201d and \u201cThe IT Crowd,\u201d who\u2019s since been canceled by the entertainment industry for having too many sane positions to mention \u2014 for calling the debate over men in women\u2019s professional basketball, with no small amount of sarcasm, a \u201cbroigus,\u201d or a bitter, pointless feud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrange this whole broigus should happen in professional basketball, where 99.9 per cent of the world are, effectively, \u2018women,\u2019\u201d Laurie originally wrote in a post Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPer Pablo Torre of Sports Illustrated, if you\u2019re an American man between 20 and 40 years of age and 7 feet tall or more, there\u2019s a 17 per cent chance you\u2019re already in the NBA.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Strange this whole broigus should happen in professional basketball, where 99.9% of the world are, effectively, \u2018women\u2019. The knives couldn\u2019t come out quickly enough. And for the record, the messages of support were all from conservatives. The left knows full well they can\u2019t say the sane and obvious truth unless they\u2019re 67 and a comic genius who has no political ambition and nothing left to lose.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, it\u2019s almost the weekend.
