Sixty-four percent of <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >nationwide voters \u201cprefer drinking beer brewed<\/a> by American workers,\u201d the polling memo said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The survey suggests beer could move voters to the polls this November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McLaughlin also polled likely voters in 18 of the most competitive congressional battleground districts before this cycle\u2019s midterm elections, though with a smaller sample size of 1,000 voters than the nationwide pool of 2,000.<\/p>\n<div voters support tariffs on Mexican beer, 54% to 34%, including independents, 52% to 35%, and identified undecided voters, 57% to 27%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The polling memo said the policy is a \u201cwinning America First election-year issue\u201d and that it can motivate \u201cthe Republican base nationally, and, critically, carrying Independent and undecided voters in the battleground districts that will decide the House majority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, when those voters were told tariffs could raise the price of beers, including Modelo and Corona, support for duties decreased to 50% to 35%.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/teamsters\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"4607\">International Brotherhood of Teamsters<\/a>, a labor union representing<em> <\/em>blue- and white-collar workers\u00a0in both the public and private sectors, has been lobbying the Trump administration to impose tariffs on Mexican beer, with about 80% of the U.S. beer industry being unionized.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOver the last 20 years as imported non-union beer has come to account for nearly 24% of the U.S. market, those industry standards have come under sustained pressure,\u201d Teamsters President Sean O\u2019Brien <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3357941\/teamsters-ask-trump-tariffs-mexican-beer\/\">wrote<\/a> last March in a letter to Commerce Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/howard-lutnick\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"11711\">Howard Lutnick<\/a>. \u201cOur nation\u2019s trade policy should be driving a race-to-the-top in terms of labor standards across North America, not forcing U.S. workers to compete with low-road Mexican companies that pay their workers pennies on the dollar in a race-to-the-bottom.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span endorsed Trump in 2024 and spoke at that year\u2019s Republican National Convention, added that imported beer could soon comprise 40% of U.S. consumption, which could cost the U.S. economy $23 billion and tens of thousands of jobs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Specifically, in 2025, Mexico supplies approximately 80% of all beer imported into the U.S., valued at $6 billion, according to MIT\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/oec.world\/en\/resources\/about\">Observatory of Economic Complexity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modelo Especial, brewed in Mexico, was the top-selling beer by dollar sales last year, though Michelob Ultra, from the American brewing company Anheuser-Busch, was the best-selling beer by volume.<\/p>\n<div
