Beirich is accused of helping to conceal payments made to informants embedded within white supremacist groups, using fictitious businesses and bank accounts to funnel donor funds-over $4.1 million from 2007 to 2023-while secretly supporting extremist entities like the National Alliance. prosecutors allege she was involved in schemes including wire fraud, false statements, and money laundering, and that she oversaw payments to informants such as “F-9,” who infiltrated neo-Nazi groups. The indictment claims she was personally involved with “F-9” and used stolen materials to report on extremist activities. The SPLC denies wrongdoing, asserting its longstanding informant program was used appropriately. Beirich faces multiple charges and is scheduled for arraignment in August, as the DOJ continues to pursue the case.

The Justice Department on Wednesday made its first individual arrest in its fraud case against the Southern Poverty Law Center, charging former Intelligence Project Director Heidi Beirich with helping to conceal donor-funded payments to informants embedded in white supremacist groups.

Beirich was arrested Wednesday in California, according to a person familiar with the arrest.
