While the U.S. sees the island as a crucial bulwark against China in the Pacific, President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"4\">Donald Trump\u2019s <\/a>administration has refused to budge on the recognition of Taiwanese sovereignty due to the likelihood that such a move could escalate into a hot conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cU.S. policy on the issue of Taiwan is unchanged as of today and as of the meeting that we had here today.
