Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) acknowledges this era but downplays its radicalism, suggesting that these ideas have moved into &#8220;Woke 2,&#8221; which is more strategically marketed but similarly rooted in radical principles. <\/p>\n<p>While politicians now frame their agendas around themes like healthcare,housing,and affordability,the underlying ideological goals remain unchanged,aiming to fundamentally reshape society through Marxist-inspired policies.woke 2 is described as more hazardous as it masks radicalism behind appealing language about helping working people, leveraging slogans like &#8220;affordability&#8221; to push socialist reforms. Examples include New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s proposals for seizing property and socialists advocating violence against landlords. The article warns that Woke 2 will be more vindictive, motivated by lessons learned from electoral setbacks, and willing to use aggressive tactics against opponents under the guise of aiding ordinary Americans.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>During an interview on ABC News, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said that \u201cWoke 1 was crazy\u201d when trying to defend Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong. ABC News\u2019 Jonathan Karl asked about Hong\u2019s previous statements about abolishing the police and that Americans should \u201ccancel Thanksgiving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy understanding is that \u2014 is that Francesca Hong has made clear her present stances to her electorate,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/Politics\/week-transcript-8-9-26-rep-alexandria-ocasio\/story?id=135487690\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cShe\u2019s moved away from it, and I have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-does-woke-1-mean-and-where-does-the-term-come-from-what-to-know\/\" title=\"What does &#039;...&#039; mean, and where does the term come from? What to know\">local city councilman<\/a> that has this saying, \u2018Woke 1 was crazy.&#8217;\u201d <\/p>\n<p>But AOC\u2019s use of \u201cWoke 1\u201d is revealing. Nobody numbers something unless she expects another version. World War I did not get its numerical attribution until World War II followed it. And so by numbering the left\u2019s woke ideological escapades, AOC is not declaring Woke 1 as dead, but rather describing it as though it\u2019s the first installment. And \u201cWoke 2\u201d won\u2019t be less radical than Woke 1 either \u2014 it\u2019s just going to be accompanied by better PR.<\/p>\n<p>The left has learned that apologizing for its most radical slogans is helpful. It learned that burying its left-wing policy underneath claims of \u201caffordability\u201d and appeals to \u201cworking people\u201d is pragmatic. It learned that candidates can and should insist that they\u2019ve had a change of heart about everything they openly believed in a few years earlier without ever having to explain why those beliefs were wrong. <\/p>\n<p>But none of these lessons require candidates to <em>actually<\/em> become less woke in philosophy or principle. It just requires them to better market and hide it.<\/p>\n<p>Woke 1 was a massive political movement that sought to abolish police and prisons, allow men in women\u2019s sports, destroy historical monuments, and cancel anyone who questioned or objected to it. Woke 1 adherents cast America as irredeemably racist and our institutions as irredeemably oppressive.<\/p>\n<p>Hong herself embraced this \u201cWoke 1\u201d era. In 2020 she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/05\/22\/politics\/kfile-francesca-hong-wisconsin-governor-race-defund-police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> defunding law enforcement was only the \u201cfirst step towards abolishing the police.\u201d She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/wisconsin-dem-frontrunner-called-cancel-thanksgiving-resurfaced-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> Thanksgiving celebrated \u201ccolonialism\u201d and was \u201cthe original superspreader event that killed indigenous folx and women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course now that Hong wants to govern a swing state, Thanksgiving is <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/politico\/status\/2085067906262438095\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">actually <\/a>now her \u201cfavorite holiday.\u201d She says she does not support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2026\/08\/05\/hong-reverses-stance-on-defunding-police-claims-about-racism\/91169945007\/?gnt-cfr=1&#038;gca-cat=p&#038;gca-uir=false&#038;gca-epti=z119951p118550l002250c118550u001850e1101xxv119951&#038;gca-ft=55&#038;gca-ds=sophi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defunding<\/a> the police, and also claims she no longer believes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/democratic-wisconsin-gubernatorial-candidate-doesnt-recall-abolish-senate-post-2021-campaign-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abolishing<\/a> the Senate despite tweeting in support of such a proposal.<\/p>\n<p>And sure, maybe Hong had some kind of epiphany that led to this transformation at the convenient moment when her old beliefs became problematic in her race. But she hasn\u2019t given any explanation for why those positions were wrong and why she fundamentally doesn\u2019t believe them now. Instead, her party is just dismissing them as part of a \u201ccrazy\u201d era to avoid accountability and, more importantly, to avoid having to actually go on the record and change its philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s the lesson from Woke 1. It\u2019s not that the ideology was fundamentally dumb and dangerous; it was merely that advertising that ideology was political suicide. \u201cDefund the police\u201d scares voters, while \u201ccancel Thanksgiving\u201d is repulsive to true Americans. So what the left is doing now is walking back from open support of these policies (while not changing the underlying philosophy that created these positions in the first place) and is instead talking about health care, groceries, housing, and \u201caffordability.\u201d The radicalism is still there, of course, fully on display in Marxist initiatives to reach that \u201caffordability\u201d and housing and health care promise, but it\u2019s not the centerpiece of their campaign.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s what makes Woke 2 more dangerous than Woke 1. Woke 1 advertised its radicalism while Woke 2 will try to soften their radicalism by framing it as candidates merely wanting cheaper housing and food and health care and \u201caffordability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Take New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has used \u201caffordability\u201d to peddle his socialist shtick. He sells government-run grocery stores, rent freezes, property theft, free buses, and other items as merely common-sense reforms to help working people. But beneath these \u201cnice\u201d-sounding promises are radical Marxist ideologies that seek to fundamentally upend America.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZohranKMamdani\/status\/1242875680796430337?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">post<\/a> on X, Mamdani said it\u2019s time to \u201cseize\u201d luxury condos from \u201coligarchs.\u201d He later doubled down on this promise, <a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/zohran-mamdani-wants-to-take-more-buildings-from-bad-landlords-how-would-that-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saying<\/a>, \u201cWe will use every single tool at our disposal, including seizing buildings from slumlords, to ensure that each and every New Yorker is given what is their right, a safe place to call their home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And while Mamdani\u2019s proposals don\u2019t sound too extreme at first glance to unsuspecting New Yorkers, the underlying class warfare <em>is<\/em> the goal. Marxist streamer Hasan Piker has explicitly called for violence toward the same landlords Mamdani targets. <\/p>\n<p>Talking about landlords and property owners who leave vacant units instead of renting them out, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EndWokeness\/status\/2041269836399940076?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Piker said<\/a>: \u201cYeah, kill them. Kill those motherf\u2013ers. Murder those motherf\u2013ers in the street. \u2026 Let the streets soak in their f\u2013ing red capitalist bloods, dude.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s similar rhetoric echoed by <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/brooklyn-dsa-member-tied-to-mamdani-admin-tenant-advocate-wants-rent-abolished\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nicol\u00e1s Vargas<\/a>, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. Vargas threatened in 2022 that if politicians don\u2019t deliver, \u201cWe have a large enough constituency in these tenant unions to actually, you know, force with leverage that, you know, if they don\u2019t kind of pass or push \u2026 these legislations, that we\u2019ll, you know, kick them out or throw them out in the street and guillotine them.\u201d He has also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/workertenant\/status\/2084443193320648944?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pushed<\/a> for a \u201cworld without landlords.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Mamdani may not have called for violence, his language on affordability legitimizes the Marxist movement he\u2019s part of, whose own members seek violence to achieve the goals Mamdani is legitimizing and normalizing. And that\u2019s what Woke 2 will be about: lead with affordability and concerns for working people, and then use that to wield power against the people your policies target.<\/p>\n<p>Woke 2 will also be more vindictive than Woke 1. During Woke 1, leftists appeared to think their power was endless, which is a partial explanation of why they just kept piling on. But after voters rejected Woke 1 in the 2024 election, leftists learned their power can easily be taken away and, as exhibited by the Trump administration, dismantled. If the left regains power, it will return angrier and more determined to wield government power against the people who rejected it in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Woke 1 may have bullied Americans into accepting it openly, but Woke 2 will make enemies pay (possibly in blood if socialists have their way) while marching under the banner of \u201caffordability.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
