The social and scientific costs of questioning their recommendations were steep and could be career-ending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The June FTC-led lawsuit accuses WPATH of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WPATH-Complaint-Redacted.pdf\">writing the Standards of Care<\/a> to make it easier for health providers to fraudulently obtain insurance coverage for sex-change \u201ccare\u201d by deeming it \u201cmedically necessary.\u201d Texas, Alaska, Iowa, and Nebraska joined the case against the group based on state-level trade laws.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All that government officials seek is to \u201cprohibit WPATH from expressing scientific opinions\u201d via \u201ccensorship,\u201d WPATH\u2019s attorneys argued. WPATH cited the same \u201cmedical and scientific uncertainty\u201d that played a major role in the Supreme Court\u2019s decision in <em>United States v. Why should judges defer to them as the accepted standard of care?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skeptical experts and officials are <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/4677366\/texas-childrens-hospital-fraudulent-sex-change-procedures\/\">increasingly investigating<\/a> health providers\u2019 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/4624689\/federally-funded-gender-care-center-dubious-diagnoses-hormone-drugs\/\">widespread practice<\/a> of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/4628676\/planned-parenthood-accused-possible-fraud-over-sex-change-care\/\">billing insurance companies<\/a> or Medicaid for transgender procedures, the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reported. Some institutions in the U.S. openly admit to writing dubious diagnoses such as \u201cEndocrine Disorder\u201d on paperwork to obtain coverage for sex-rejecting hormone therapy.
