Trump has joined at least 16 such tele-rallies as reentering office in January 2023, supporting various Republican candidates and campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>While teh White House has listed these events publicly, questions remain about their transparency and the blending of official government duties with campaign activities. Never have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blair took a leave of absence earlier this year from his role as White House deputy chief of staff to run Trump\u2019s outside political operation. He suggested that the tele-rallies are now appearing on the president\u2019s daily schedule because he \u201cjust [doesn\u2019t] work there anymore and [doesn\u2019t] get asked, and therefore no one says to leave off.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter Loge, a professor at George Washington University\u2019s School of Media and Public Affairs and the director of the Project on Ethics in Political Communication, suggested that the White House\u2019s inclusion of tele-rallies on Trump\u2019s schedule blurs the lines between government and campaign operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPresident Trump has a history of mixing politics, self-interest, and government,\u201d he told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cRunning politics on the official White House schedule is one more example of Trump treating the White House as something he owns, rather than something he borrows from the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump has joined at least 16 tele-rallies since reentering office last January, with two coming last year and the remaining 14 occurring after April of this year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monday night, Trump tele-rallied for Sens. Darline Graham Nordone (R-SC) and Michael Alfonso (R-WI), the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who is running for Congress in Wisconsin. In some cases, the president has joined multiple tele-rallies for the same candidate, such as Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL), whose U.S. Senate campaign drew separate tele-rally appearances from the president in May and June. In other cases, Trump has opted to join multiple tele-rallies on the same night, such as Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, the actual efficacy of the tele-rally, at least compared to in-person stumping from the president, remains to be seen. Trump-backed Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) lost his primary last week just days after the president called into a tele-rally in support of his reelection campaign. Trump\u2019s April 20 tele-rally with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in Virginia also failed to stop the state\u2019s ballot initiative that would have granted Democrats a favorable electoral map. Virginia\u2019s Supreme Court would go on to strike down the new map after the initiative passed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heading into this year, the White House predicted that Trump would be hitting the campaign trail every week to both tout his record in office and support downballot Republicans.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White House officials cited to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that Trump has made 21 visits across the country so far this year \u201cto highlight his accomplishments alongside Republicans in Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The total falls eight visits short of the weekly pace set by the White House ahead of 2026, while five of those trips featured multiple visits across multiple legs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two senior Trump administration officials conceded to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that Trump, who routinely appears in public more than his immediate predecessors, had slowed down his domestic trips compared to his first term.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-26\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-5\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think there\u2019s two things at play here. One, just realistically, there\u2019s too much going on right now for him to be able to do all of these rallies in person.
