In 2026 alone, ASRM sponsored a <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.asrm.org\/asrmresearch\/researcher-spotlights\/2026-asrm-grant-awardees?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plethora<\/a> of left-wing ventures, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.asrm.org\/asrmresearch\/researcher-spotlights\/2026-asrm-grant-awardees?ssopc=1\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrmresearch.org\/rfp\/di-grant-opportunities\/rescuingresearchgrant?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$125,000<\/a> award for a study dedicated to observing the reproductive consequences of female mice pumped with testosterone. The stated goal of the experiment is to help \u201ctransgender men\u201d have children through in vitro fertilization (IVF).<\/p>\n<p>ASRM granted another scientist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrmresearch.org\/rfp\/di-grant-opportunities\/rescuingresearchgrant?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$125,000<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.asrm.org\/asrmresearch\/researcher-spotlights\/2026-asrm-grant-awardees?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study <\/a>how climate and \u201cracial\/ethnic disparities\u201d affect menstrual health. The organization also sent <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/nonprofits\/organizations\/42284338\/202640829349300504\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$30,000 <\/a>to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menhavingbabies.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Men Having Babies, Inc.<\/a>, which supports gay men pursuing pregnancy via surrogacy and IVF, and All Paths Family Building, which <a href=\"https:\/\/allpathsfb.org\/support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">supports pro-LGBTQ \u201cfertility\u201d<\/a> and hosts <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/4dC7i7yRE2qY740q8BAjiZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LGBTQ couples on their podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ASRM\u2019s politically directed funding is just the beginning. ASRM <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32106974\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">encourages testing on human embryos<\/a>, stating in their \u201cethics guidelines\u201d that \u201cResearch involving human embryos is ethically acceptable if it is likely to provide significant new knowledge that may benefit human health, well-being of the offspring, or reproduction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ASRM suggests IVF-created embryos, which <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/20\/to-be-pro-life-politicians-must-stand-for-all-babies-from-conception-even-when-it-happens-in-a-lab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">science affirms are living<\/a> from the moment of lab conception, are merely \u201cpotential\u201d humans, thus implying that experiments on them are acceptable and not a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewtnnews.com\/world\/us\/more-human-embryos-destroyed-through-ivf-than-abortion-every-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">death sentence that destroys more unborn babies than abortion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrmresearch.org\/about\/ri-advisory-committee?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">member of ASRM\u2019s advisory board<\/a> directed a study examining the components of human embryos that killed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/news-releases\/807999\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all 117 she used<\/a>. ASRM also sponsored an <a href=\"https:\/\/asrm.aflip.in\/Discovery_Insider_Summer_2024#page\/4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">experiment by Salomeh Salari <\/a>that tested the effects of depriving embryos of oxygen.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to indulge LGBT couples and singles who want access to children, ASRM also promotes research into in vitro gametogenesis (IVG). IVG involves harvesting stem cells, which are in blood, skin cells, and hair cells, and turning them into egg or sperm cells. Katy Faust, founder of the pro-life group \u201cThem Before Us,\u201d told The Federalist that a future with IVG could look like \u201csee[ing] an adult who only grew to like five foot six and didn\u2019t have a perfect ACT score, and being like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s the natural-born kid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ASRM lists studying IVG as a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/connect.asrm.org\/asrmresearch\/what-we-fund\/research-priorities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">priority<\/a>\u201d and created a yearly research grant to support ongoing study. One 2026 awardee, who received up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrmresearch.org\/rfp\/di-grant-opportunities\/rescuingresearchgrant?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$125,000<\/a>, led a project called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/connect.asrm.org\/asrmresearch\/researcher-spotlights\/2026-asrm-grant-awardees?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Defining the Molecular Origins of Human Germ Cells to Improve In Vitro Gametogenesis<\/a>.\u201d Two other grants, one that gives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrmresearch.org\/rfp\/di-grant-opportunities\/asrm-di-grant-guidelines?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$50 to $750,000 a year<\/a> and another that gives up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrmresearch.org\/rfp\/di-grant-opportunities\/asrm-di-grant-guidelines?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$40,000 a year<\/a>, are focused explicitly on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-democrats-vote-down-amendment-that-would-have-banned-certain-human-animal-hybrid-experiments\/\" title=\"Senate Democrats Vote Down A...d...t That Would Have Banned Certain ...-Animal Hybrid Experi...ts\">stem cell research<\/a>. One way to earn the latter is to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrmresearch.org\/rfp\/di-grant-opportunities\/asrm-di-grant-guidelines?ssopc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apply what has been learned from animal models to in vitro gametogenesis in the human<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ASRM claims to recognize that offering services that create people on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/practice-guidance\/ethics-opinions\/ethical-considerations-of-in-vitro-gametogenesis-an-ethics-committee-opinion-asrm-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201clarge scale<\/a>,\u201d using only stem cells, and eugenically selecting for certain characteristics could create \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/practice-guidance\/ethics-opinions\/ethical-considerations-of-in-vitro-gametogenesis-an-ethics-committee-opinion-asrm-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increased discrimination<\/a>\u201d against those with diseases and disabilities or children born naturally. ASRM even admits that IVG leads to eugenics,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/practice-guidance\/ethics-opinions\/ethical-considerations-of-in-vitro-gametogenesis-an-ethics-committee-opinion-asrm-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> saying that <\/a>it \u201craises concern about the commodification of human life,\u201d and could create a future where \u201cinequality is inescapable from birth\u201d if \u201cgenetic selection determines social status and opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, ASRM brushes off those concerns even after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/practice-guidance\/ethics-opinions\/ethical-considerations-of-in-vitro-gametogenesis-an-ethics-committee-opinion-asrm-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noticing those issues with IVF<\/a>. Faust warned that \u201cpeople don\u2019t understand that our inability to regulate the basics right now bodes so poorly for the dystopian future we\u2019re headed for.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Profit Over Principles<\/h2>\n<p>Through partnerships with other medical groups and the federal government, ASRM has exercised control over the fertility industry.<\/p>\n<p>ASRM is affiliated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/membership\/asrm-member-groups\/affiliated-societies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">five institutions<\/a> key to reproductive technology research. One is the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sart.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SART<\/a>). Alongside ASRM, SART, which advertises same-sex partnering on its homepage, runs a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/advocacy-and-policy\/fact-sheets-and-one-pagers\/oversight-of-art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">membership program<\/a> for fertility facilities in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Garnering SART approval <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/advocacy-and-policy\/fact-sheets-and-one-pagers\/oversight-of-art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">requires clinics to obey ASRM\u2019s ethical guidelines<\/a>. ASRM estimates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/advocacy-and-policy\/fact-sheets-and-one-pagers\/oversight-of-art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">that more than 90 percent <\/a>of U.S. fertility clinics have a SART certification. A leading IVF provider,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccrmivf.com\/why-choose-ccrm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> CCRM Fertility<\/a>, estimates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccrmivf.com\/understanding-sart-success-rates-ivf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">80 percent<\/a> of fertility clinics are SART members, and that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccrmivf.com\/understanding-sart-success-rates-ivf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">If a clinic you\u2019re considering is not a member of SART, that\u2019s a red flag<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its role in SART\u2019s supervision of fertility clinics, ASRM lobbies for leftist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/advocacy-and-policy\/advocacy-activities\/2026-advocacy-activities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social issues including IVF, abortion, and transgender \u201ccare.\u201d<\/a> Between 2022 and 2024, ASRM spent $337,000 on lobbying and another $962,633 on grassroots just in 2024, according to their IRS Form <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/nonprofits\/organizations\/42284338\/202640829349300504\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">990<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The organization sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/advocacy-and-policy\/advocacy-activities\/2026-advocacy-activities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10 letters<\/a> this year demanding state lawmakers define embryos as \u201cnon-persons\u201d and declare IVF a right. ASRM sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/advocacy-and-policy\/advocacy-activities\/2026-advocacy-activities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">other letters<\/a> praising pro-abortion laws, condemning bills limiting surgical and chemical abortion, championing transgender mutilation and puberty blockers for minors, and promoting bills that would define sex and gender as subjective.<\/p>\n<p>ASRM has also dedicated vast resources to fighting <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/29\/true-fertility-care-treats-the-whole-person-and-you-can-help-it-expand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restorative reproductive medicine<\/a> (RRM), which seeks to treat infertility by addressing underlying health issues, including sending letters to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/globalassets\/_asrm\/advocacy-and-policy\/advocacy-activities\/2025\/2025-08-13-joint_letter_opposing_rrm_081425.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">every governor<\/a> claiming RRM is not \u201cgrounded in science\u201d or \u201cevidence-based.\u201d ASRM even has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/news-and-events\/asrm-news\/press-releasesbulletins\/new-research-examines-range-of-restorative-reproductive-medicine-practices-from-evidence-based-perspective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">page on its website<\/a> dedicated to criticizing RRM.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Waters, a policy analyst at The Heritage Foundation\u2019s Center for Technology and the Human Person, told The Federalist ASRM opposes RRM because it<strong> <\/strong>\u201cpose[s] an immense threat to the business model and industry of a default IVF-first approach that [ASRM] has benefited from for decades.\u201d Faust agreed that ASRM promotes IVF and other ART over RRM<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.precedenceresearch.com\/in-vitro-fertilization-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">because they have much larger profit margins.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[IVF] is one of the most lucrative things in the medical industry because it is [deregulated], and the people that they are serving are often really desperate to have a baby, and they capitalize on that,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>ASRM also attacks RRM because it recognizes embryos as persons. ASRM issued a statement calling the treatment method a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertstert.org\/article\/S0015-0282(25)00596-5\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">religiously and politically motivated response to IVF rooted in the \u201cantiabortion pro-personhood stance<\/a>.\u201d ASRM <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertstert.org\/article\/S0015-0282(25)00596-5\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blames the Trump administration, Christianity, and the political right<\/a> for the rise of \u201cfringe\u201d RRM treatments, rather than factors such as ethical concerns, increased interest in root causes, and lower-intervention health options.<\/p>\n<p>To set the record straight on \u201cfetal personhood ideology,\u201d ASRM <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asrm.org\/advocacy-and-policy\/fact-sheets-and-one-pagers\/asrm-position-statement-on-personhood-measures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued a \u201cposition statement\u201d<\/a> opposing the recognition of human embryos as distinct persons starting at conception, even though, as Waters noted, \u201chuman embryos are genetically complete and distinct human persons at the earliest stage of their biological development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a clear moment of conception or fertilization where it goes from two separate gametes, an egg and sperm, to this new entity that is a human embryo,\u201d Waters noted.<\/p>\n<h2>The Battle Has Just Begun<\/h2>\n<p>ASRM recently started taking drastic actions to embed IVF as America\u2019s response to infertility. Earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/inciid.org\/tennessees-new-fertility-clinic-law-a-step-forward-but-patients-still-need-to-ask-the-hard-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ASRM pushed Tennessee to reject pro-life stances on IVF.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After an IVF facility in the state with many frozen embryos in storage closed, two bills defining embryos as humans emerged in Tennessee\u2019s 2025 legislative session. ASRM worked with Tennessee lobbyists to push for a separate bill to require all Tennessee fertility clinics to be certified by SART, which requires clinics to follow ASRM\u2019s ethical guidelines and its views on embryos. That alternative bill became law in May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Wood, the executive director of Them Before Us, was in Tennessee fighting ASRM\u2019s bill before it passed. He told The Federalist that lawmakers regret supporting the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven the lawmakers that talked to us that voted initially for the [bill] relented or recanted and actually wanted to get to us on record to send a letter to say \u2018We didn\u2019t really realize what the bill was doing.
