A previous vote to restrict membership to those &#8220;born female&#8221; was rejected, with members citing legal and constitutional protections. Storage emphasized that the national leadership respected the outcome of the vote and maintained that no additional meetings would be convened. Despite internal conflicts and external criticism, including legislative efforts to block male membership, the DAR continues to face backlash for its stance on gender and membership criteria. Storage, who is active in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/parents-arent-safe-but-i-am-mom-says-daughter-was-told-to-consider-being-transgender-at-art-club\/\" title=\"\u2018Parents Aren\u2019t Safe, But I Am\u2019: Mom Says Daughter Was Told To Consider Being Transgender At \u2018Art Club\u2019\">pro-trans groups<\/a>, has publicly supported inclusivity efforts, while some members and politicians advocate for maintaining traditional, women-only membership policies.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The women fighting to protect the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution\u2019s female-only membership received another blow this week after DAR President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage refused chapters\u2019 requests for a special session to vote on the definition of \u201cwoman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The August 6 rejection, published to the DAR Members\u2019 Website and distributed to members by at least one state regent, suggests DAR national leadership, led by Storage, is committed to accommodating men at the expense its members, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/jun\/24\/transgender-showdown-looms-daughters-american-revolutions-annual\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thousands of whom departed<\/a> over the DAR\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/11\/women-flee-daughters-of-the-american-revolution-after-it-admits-men\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">years-long abandonment<\/a> of its female-centric mission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Society\u2019s representative body has already fully considered and decided the proposed resolution,\u201d Storage wrote. \u201cArticle VIII does not require the President General to convene that body only months later to take another vote on the identical resolution. Accordingly, no additional special meeting will be convened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Storage acknowledged that the requests for a special session stemmed \u201cfrom chapters that previously sought an October special meeting, as well as requests from some additional chapters.\u201d She concluded, however, that indulging those requests \u201cis neither required by the National Bylaws nor consistent with the governance responsibilities of the President General\u201d after the national society vote earlier this year. <\/p>\n<p>A previous attempt to limit membership to those \u201cborn female\u201d was defeated 1,481 to 984 at the DAR\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/25\/hundreds-rally-to-preserve-daughters-of-the-american-revolution-for-actual-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">135th Continental Congress<\/a> in Washington, D.C., in June, after voting members were handed what Laura McDonald, treasurer of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/texas-daughters-american-revolution-chapter-challenges-premise-must-admit-transgender-members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Martha Laird DAR chapter<\/a> in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and founder of the Daughters Advocating for Restoration, called a \u201cone-sided legal memo\u201d that insinuated \u201cthe DAR does not have a First Amendment Right to define membership eligibility.\u201d The Center for American Liberty previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/826384115\/Center-for-American-Liberty-DAR-Letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confirmed<\/a> that the DAR \u201cwould have a strong First Amendment defense\u201d for exclusively admitting women to its ranks.<\/p>\n<p>Storage was quick in her August 6 message to remind DAR members \u201cThat decision was made by the representative body authorized under the National Bylaws to act for the National Society. Neither the National Board of Management nor the President General determined the outcome of the vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McDonald <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/29\/daughters-of-the-american-revolution-betrays-its-mission-by-rejecting-resolution-to-keep-its-ranks-female\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> The Federalist in June, however, that the vote was originally supposed to happen at an October special meeting. Instead, the DAR\u2019s National Board of Management \u201cadded this as an agenda item for Continental Congress, bypassing the requirement that 100 percent of the membership must be notified about this resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Storage pretended to address this claim by explaining in her latest letter that notice was given, but acknowledged it was only \u201cby email to voting members of the 135th Continental Congress and\u00a0by posting on the Members\u2019 Website.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough that consideration occurred as the Special Order of Business rather than at a separately convened special meeting, the representative body was afforded the same opportunity to consider, debate, and decide the proposed resolution as it would have received at the requested special meeting,\u201d Storage insisted.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald and the dozens of DAR chapters that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/11\/women-flee-daughters-of-the-american-revolution-after-it-admits-men\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tried for years<\/a> to reject the transing of their female-only organization by proposing amendments requiring proof of sex with an original birth certificate or DNA testing mourned the vote and strategized to get a special session on the calendar in the fall. Storage, however, followed the vote with a reminder to members that \u201cthe decision of the voting members reflects the considered judgment of the membership assembled at the Continental Congress, and it deserves our respect.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo any member who has felt discouraged or unwelcome: you are, and remain, a valued Daughter,\u201d Storage <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/29\/daughters-of-the-american-revolution-betrays-its-mission-by-rejecting-resolution-to-keep-its-ranks-female\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Storage is a member of the pro-trans Facebook group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/744599598584264\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daughters for Inclusivity<\/a> which worked to defeat the resolution. She later <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/02\/daughters-of-the-american-revolution-leader-threatens-members-for-speaking-out-in-favor-of-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cloved\u201d<\/a> the post of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/744599598584264\/user\/503735551\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">self-described \u201ctrans daughter\u201d<\/a> from her personal Facebook account.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Even before Storage assumed her presidency, the DAR actively worked to shut down discourse about protecting its membership from male infiltrators. In one 2024 letter, the DAR claimed to the Nevada Sagebrush Chapter that limiting membership to females only is not \u201csuitable subject matter for inclusion in the bylaws and is not in the best interests of the society.\u201d In another internal DAR document <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/11\/women-flee-daughters-of-the-american-revolution-after-it-admits-men\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">obtained by The Federalist<\/a>, DAR leadership insisted \u201ca transgender woman is not a man\u201d and is \u201calso not a man simply dressed as a woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DAR\u2019s refusal to honor its <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/CkkcA8ywe40?si=0UTDS3-dn-cvmUGb&#038;t=169\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mission to<\/a> create a society \u201cthat would harness a desire for service that would help usher in the progressive era in the United States and create a legacy for future generations of women\u201d has prompted backlash not only inside the DAR, but from politicians. Sen.
