Protesters are seen shouting at Levi, and two throw rocks at the excavator, one of which smashes its side window. Levi then is seen raising a gun and shooting into the crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The victim, holding the camera, then collapses to the ground and can be heard moaning in pain. Hathaleen was a Palestinian activist who contributed footage to the 2024 Oscar-winning documentary film <em>No Other Land<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Levi <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-palestinians-settler-levi-palestinian-activist-hathaleen-58e246abe5bda4d075bc61d31b7ffdfb\">argued to prosecutors <\/a>that his use of a firearm was done in self-defense and that indicting him is \u201cde facto support for terrorism.\u201d His lawyer has called the charge a \u201cmistaken decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Communities in the West Bank have welcomed the rare indictment but claim that the widespread problem of Israeli settler violence against Palestinians continues to be ignored by the government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe decision to indict Yinon Levi is the \u200bexception that proves the rule,\u201d Palestinian rights organization B\u2019Tselem <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/israel-charges-settler-palestinian-activists-killing-rare-indictment-2026-08-06\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe impunity Israel grants to soldiers and settlers who harm Palestinians is not a failure of the system. It is a central component of a policy designed to allow the violence to continue and escalate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Levi is being charged with reckless homicide and, if convicted, faces up to 12 years in prison. He also faces lesser charges, including property damage and armed trespassing. He was previously sanctioned by the United States under former President Joe Biden, but those penalties were lifted under President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4375504\/netanyahu-downplays-settler-violence-west-bank-despite-trump-concerns\/\">repeatedly dismissed the idea<\/a> that there is a widespread problem of Israeli settlers terrorizing Palestinian residents, dismissing the mobs as a \u201chandful of kids.\u201d He maintained that position last month after a delegation to the West Bank led by Rep.
