Democrats moved to table the vote on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/ROM26376.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contempt resolution<\/a> and \u201cthen suggested giving Fauci immunity to [Department of Justice] prosecution to come in and testify, but their motions failed,\u201d according to Fox News\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BillMelugin_\/status\/2085354695141347582?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bill Melugin<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When appearing before the committee last week, Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/29\/fauci-invokes-fifth-amendment-refuses-to-answer-for-his-covid-corruption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plead<\/a> the Fifth Amendment <a href=\"https:\/\/abc3340.com\/news\/nation-world\/senate-committee-vote-holding-fauci-in-contempt-for-pleading-the-fifth-111-times-dr-covid19-pandemic-coronavirus-rand-paul-diary-entries-phone-nih-research-lab-wuhan-questioning-hearing-reaction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than 100 times<\/a> to avoid answering questions from lawmakers about his lies to the public and conduct throughout the viral outbreak. The move comes amid debates among legal scholars about the validity of Fauci\u2019s move to plead the Fifth over conduct covered by his <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/20\/mentally-incompetent-biden-confirms-guilt-of-j6-committee-fauci-milley-with-last-minute-pardons\/\">sweeping <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/20\/mentally-incompetent-biden-confirms-guilt-of-j6-committee-fauci-milley-with-last-minute-pardons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">p<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/20\/mentally-incompetent-biden-confirms-guilt-of-j6-committee-fauci-milley-with-last-minute-pardons\/\">ardon<\/a> from former President Biden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While discussing Fauci\u2019s pardon \u2014 which covers \u201ca period of some 11 years\u201d \u2014 Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/2085355068124017144?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">argued<\/a> that \u201cin that context, the assertion of Fifth Amendment privilege only adheres to those instances where the witness has a reasonable fear of future prosecution, and it must be tailored to any such fear.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe fact that he wouldn\u2019t answer questions about the tie he was wearing or the color of the carpet or the day of the week \u2014 Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., obtained a copy of Fauci\u2019s cellphone from when he worked as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
