But if Abdul allows the race to become a referendum on him, it becomes problematic for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his part, el Sayed wasted little time taking aim at Trump and Rogers Wednesday after being declared the winner, as well as making overtures to those whose vote he failed to earn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs bitter and as divisive and as cynical as the campaign against us might have been, I want us to realize there is so much more that unites us now, because the campaign that Mike Rogers and Donald Trump and their GOP MAGA allies are launching are already more bitter,\u201d el Sayed said during his victory speech. \u201cWhether you voted for me or voted for my opponent or didn\u2019t vote at all, we\u2019re inviting you to that movement to get money out of politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On paper, Democratic leaders are so far checking all the boxes to rally around el Sayed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Endorsements rolled in Wednesday from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY); Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), the head of Senate Democrats\u2019 campaign arm; both Democratic Michigan Sens. Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin; and both former primary opponents Stevens and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow. Schumer and Peters previously supported Stevens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fundraising pitches for el Sayed from top Democrats to donors also went out in the hours after the race was called, including from Harris\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Bencjacobs\/status\/2085039502473445862?s=20\">email<\/a> contributor list and a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/secure.actblue.com\/donate\/smp-em-q32026?refcode=AU_SMP_FR_GEN_GEN_AC_20260805_PM1_V1_S2\">group<\/a> tied to the Schumer-aligned Senate Majority PAC.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe party has to all come together right now. We don\u2019t have a lot of time,\u201d said Peters, a former chairman of Senate Democrats\u2019 campaign arm. \u201cEverybody has to come together and understand that as Democrats, whatever differences we have between us as Democrats are minor compared to the differences between our Democratic candidate and the Republican candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The battleground race is to replace Peters, who is retiring from Congress after two terms in the Senate and three terms in the House.
