Edwards’s campaign denied any violations of sexual harassment laws. As the November election approaches, there is speculation about his potential withdrawal since the seat coudl be a Democratic pickup opportunity; however, he has not indicated any intent to drop out. The Cook Political Report rates the district as “lean Republican,” with polls showing Edwards and Democratic challenger Jamie Ager tied. Legal procedures in North Carolina allow the party to replace Edwards as a candidate if he withdraws, but doing so after ballots are printed would complicate ballots for military and overseas voters. Despite the controversy, Edwards has not responded to questions about withdrawing and maintains his campaign’s stance of seeking to clear his name.

Rep.
