pfTrackEvent(&#039;Florida AG Calls For Impeachment Inquiry Into Biden Judge Over Past SPLC Ties&#039;); return false;\" title=\"Printer Friendly, PDF &#038; Email\">                     <span id=\"printfriendly-text2\" class=\"pf-button-text\"><i class=\"mdi mdi-printer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span>                     <\/a>                 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"pf-content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is calling on Congress to launch an impeachment inquiry into a Biden-appointed federal judge over her past role working for the now-indicted <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/southern-poverty-law-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGJamesUthmeier\/status\/2084382415514935620?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> addressed to House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, House Oversight Chair James Comer, and Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley, Uthmeier requested that Republicans probe 11th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Nancy Abudu \u201cto determine whether her service as a top attorney for the [SPLC] warrants her impeachment and removal\u201d from the bench. Abudu had <a href=\"https:\/\/bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/12\/23\/president-biden-names-twelfth-round-of-judicial-nominees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">served<\/a> as the far-left group\u2019s deputy legal director and director for Strategic Litigation beginning in 2019, and the Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1181\/vote_118_1_00132.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confirmed<\/a> her in May 2023.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-720688779\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnly those of the highest character are fit to administer laws in this great Nation,\u201d Uthmeier wrote. \u201cIn light of recent revelations concerning potential criminal conduct by SPLC, Judge Abudu\u2019s leadership role within SPLC raises serious questions about what she knew and did and whether she should continue serving on the federal bench. As such, I strongly recommend that the House of Representatives and Senate take up their constitutional duty to serve as a check on the Judicial Branch.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Florida attorney general went on to detail a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/21\/grand-jury-indicts-southern-poverty-law-center-for-secret-fraudulent-payments-to-racist-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent indictment<\/a> by an Alabama-based grand jury against the SPLC. While regularly smearing conservative-leaning organizations as \u201chate groups,\u201d the far-left SPLC is alleged to have fraudulently bankrolled actual racist groups like the Ku Klux Klan as part of a purported \u201ccovert\u201d informant scheme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SPLC allegedly gave upward of $3 million in donor funds to such extremist organizations from 2014 to 2023, according to the indictment. Put another way, it was allegedly funding the extremism it proclaimed to be fighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>[READ:[READ:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/03\/splc-paid-kkk-members-who-wanted-out-to-stay-with-racist-group-doj-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPLC Paid KKK Members Who \u2018Wanted Out\u2019 To Stay With Racist Group, DOJ Says<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While noting Abudu\u2019s prior role within the SPLC, Uthmeier said that \u201c[i]t strains credulity to think that [she], a senior legal officer at SPLC, wouldn\u2019t have been aware of the organization\u2019s alleged criminal conduct during her tenure.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c\u2018Congress has the sole power of impeachment.\u2019 And impeachments may be made for \u2018high [c]rimes and [m]isdemeanors,\u2019 for which I believe Judge Abudu may be responsible during her time with SPLC and which she may have committed by failing to disclose SPLC\u2019s fraudulent practices during her confirmation process,\u201d Uthmeier wrote. \u201cThe Orwellian lengths SPLC traveled to deceive its donors are particularly disturbing, given the extremist nature of the groups it supported. Judge Abudu\u2019s potential knowledge of and involvement in SPLC\u2019s conduct necessitates an impeachment inquiry.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abudu\u2019s SPLC employment became a hot topic throughout her Senate confirmation process. The Biden appointee notably authored a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/resources\/stories\/57th-anniversary-medgar-evers-assassination-march-voting-rights-continues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2020 SPLC article<\/a> comparing laws that prohibit convicted felons from voting to \u201cthe same system as during slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPolitical rhetoric is one thing, but when you have extreme leftists falsely claiming white supremacy, it illustrates that you are dealing with radical and partisan zealots,\u201d Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.md\/BC1WO#selection-1863.0-1863.288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> at the time of the SPLC\u2019s repulsive smears against Republicans. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Senate narrowly confirmed Abudu in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1181\/vote_118_1_00132.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">49-47 vote<\/a>, with all present Republicans and then-Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., voting in opposition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In concluding his letter to GOP congressional leadership, Uthmeier said that a sitting judge \u201cshould not be able to escape impeachment for wrongful conduct occurring prior to her appointment that may have been concealed from the Senate and the public during her confirmation process.\u201d He further underscored Congress\u2019s power to check the federal courts and hold \u201caccountable individuals who have acted wrongfully.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
