Talarico has 47% support compared to Paxton\u2019s 45%, with the race considered highly competitive and within the margin of error. However, Paxton\u2019s campaign dismisses the poll, emphasizing that the only election that counts is in November. The race is among the closest nationwide, with both parties aiming to gain or retain Senate control. Various polls show Talarico with a slight lead, but recent predictions from markets favor Paxton to win. The latest poll reflects a trend of the most recent surveys on the race, which show Talarico leading within the margin of error. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Texas Attorney General\u2019s campaign dismissed the poll on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe only poll that matters is November 3,\u201d Paxton\u2019s campaign adviser Nick Maddux told <em>Axios<\/em>, referring to the general election. \u201cTalarico\u2019s campaign will end up exactly where every Democrat before him has ended up in Texas \u2014 a pipe dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Texas race is one of the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4670693\/paxton-trumpets-affordability-message-new-tax-proposal-senate-race-stalemate\/\">closest nationwide <\/a>and is viewed as critically important, as both parties battle for wider margins of power in the Senate. A <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/fox-news-poll-gop-divisions-shape-texas-senate-race\">Fox News poll<\/a> released in late July had Talarico up 51%\u00a0to 48%. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/texaspublicopinionresearch.substack.com\/p\/new-poll-james-talaricos-lead-over\">A recent Texas Public Opinion Research<\/a> survey indicated Talarico was up 45% to 40%. 270 To Win\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.270towin.com\/2026-senate-polls\/texas\">polling aggregate<\/a> hands the race to Talarico, 48% to 44.7%. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talarico still faces steep odds in his bid to succeed outgoing Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and flip the seat blue. Polymarket <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/polymarket.com\/event\/texas-senate-election-winner\">similarly has<\/a> Paxton up, 52% to 48%. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Barbara Jordan Public Policy Research and Survey Center at Texas Southern University surveyed 1,200 likely voters in Texas with a margin of error of +\/- 2.83 points.
