It criticizes efforts that undermine the rule of law,emphasizing that the proper role of government is to uphold justice and protect citizens\u2019 rights-responsibilities that currently remain unfulfilled in Madison.The piece concludes by contrasting the rule of law with mob passions, warning that persistent lawlessness signals a drift toward socialist ideals and the erosion of American foundational values.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>James Madison <a href=\"https:\/\/press-pubs.uchicago.edu\/founders\/documents\/v1ch16s23.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> that government owes its citizens a \u201cdebt of protection\u201d and must never permit \u201carbitrary seizures\u201d of property, personal safety, and personal liberties from \u201cone class of citizens for the service of the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet in a city named for this Founding Father \u2014 Madison, Wisconsin \u2014 citizens have been harassed by roving bands of socialists, while city officials not only acquiesce but overtly support the seizure of property, restriction of free movement, and abuse of private businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The saga began on July 22, when four Madison police officers attempted to arrest Corey Ruiz, who was reportedly armed with a knife. A series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qaNh5Qxh12k\">videos<\/a> shows Ruiz resisting arrest and lunging at officers until one officer shot and killed him. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/madison-police-body-cams-leaders-things-have-changed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to police, Ruiz pulled out his knife and injured an officer before he was shot.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was no stranger to law enforcement. Over a 17-year criminal <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DanLennington\/status\/2080681208728457244?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">career<\/a>, Ruiz had been <a href=\"https:\/\/wcca.wicourts.gov\/case.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">charged<\/a> with 86 separate crimes, including 11 charges of resisting or obstructing officers, 14 charges of bail jumping, and 12 charges of disorderly conduct. Those are just the most frequently charged crimes. Ruiz was also arrested multiple times each for battery, strangulation, vehicle theft, cocaine possession, and threats to a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer.<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >criminal career showed profound disrespect<\/a> for, and violence toward, law enforcement. Despite Ruiz\u2019s constant threats to the safety of Madison\u2019s citizens and law enforcement, he received only a handful of short jail terms and two short prison sentences from judges and prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz\u2019s death sparked the typical leftist reaction: violence and threats of violence. All the necessary ingredients were present: the officers involved were white, and Ruiz was black (although five separate court <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DanLennington\/status\/2080681218769666415?s=20\">records<\/a> list him as \u201cCaucasian,\u201d which raises different questions).<\/p>\n<p>Leading candidate for Wisconsin governor and avowed \u201cdemocratic\u201d socialist Francesca Hong took to the streets hours after the death with a bullhorn to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SchulteLaura\/status\/2080115309642473578?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denounce<\/a> the police. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA man died at the hands of state-sanctioned violence,\u201d Hong said. But that wasn\u2019t enough for the crowd, who heckled her with \u201cSay it! Say it!\u201d Then she did: \u201cThis state-sanctioned violence was an <em>execution<\/em>.\u201d The mob cheered.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently encouraged by the righteous endorsement of a leading political figure, the mobs proceeded to the Wisconsin State Capitol, where thousands had gathered for the popular weekly concert series, \u201cConcerts on the Square.\u201d Protesters took the stage with bullhorns, yelling at well-dressed Madison leftists who were sitting at tables and attempting to enjoy the blessings of one of America\u2019s leading Democrat-run cities. <\/p>\n<p>If concertgoers meekly objected, they were unsuccessful. \u201cB-tch, we are the concert!\u201d the protesters reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SchulteLaura\/status\/2080101756072006116?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a>. Luxury beliefs do sometimes reveal their true costs.<\/p>\n<p>Chaos erupted elsewhere in Madison. City officials <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SchulteLaura\/status\/2080392652491555189?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allowed<\/a> protesters to take over a press conference at City Hall. On State Street \u2014 a vital commercial hub of bars and restaurants between the Capitol and the University of Wisconsin\u2013Madison \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs58.com\/news\/madison-protesters-hold-state-street-sit-in-renew-calls-for-police-accountability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">protesters<\/a> shut down restaurants and businesses, blocking customers from entering. Some observers <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZachBitango\/status\/2081255041315291186?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speculated<\/a> that demonstrators were targeting white-owned businesses.<\/p>\n<p>This spasm of violence has now turned into a long-term strategy of occupation. At the site of the shooting \u2014 Willy Street and Baldwin Street \u2014 protesters have constructed the \u201cCorey Ruiz Autonomous Zone,\u201d mimicking similar autonomous zones constructed in Seattle and Minneapolis. Multiple blocks of Madison streets are under occupation with tents, wooden pallets, mattresses, and other obstructions, protected by medieval-looking <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SchulteLaura\/status\/2082453985131168211?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nail board booby traps<\/a>, garbage-can barricades, and even city-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SchulteLaura\/status\/2082153732934889659?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trucks<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Yes, the city itself is supporting the occupation by installing barricades to protect the \u201cCRAZ.\u201d Officials have helpfully informed citizens that the area will be closed \u201cuntil further notice.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SchulteLaura\/status\/2083196716069609728?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Porta-potties<\/a> even appeared to support the occupation, although the city <a href=\"https:\/\/fox47.com\/news\/local\/needs-to-end-now-madison-mayor-demands-encampment-to-close\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denies<\/a> supplying them. <\/p>\n<p>City residents are bearing the burden of the occupation. Local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channel3000.com\/news\/willy-street-businesses-impacted-as-protests-block-customer-traffic\/article_f7765539-7c78-49e9-b0ed-e0dccb74d72e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restaurants<\/a> are worried about how they will make rent or pay their employees, and homeowners are dealing with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-trailers-meant-to-house-calif-homeless-sitting-unused-in-parking-lots\/\" title=\"Report: Trailers meant to house Calif. homeless sitting unused in parking lots\">city-sanctioned homeless encampment<\/a> and all that comes with it, including frequent outbreaks of violence.<\/p>\n<p>This is exactly what conservatives mean when they demand the \u201crule of law.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DanLennington\/status\/2082306033595093420?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">law<\/a> allows none of this, yet the city supports and encourages this lawless behavior. Madison\u2019s ordinances <a href=\"https:\/\/library.municode.com\/wi\/madison\/codes\/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COORMAWIVOICH1--10_CH10STALSIGU_10.23OBSTSI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prohibit<\/a> the blocking or obstruction of city streets; under state law, blocking a street is a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.legis.wisconsin.gov\/statutes\/statutes\/346\/iv\/29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crime<\/a>. Civil rights laws also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DanLennington\/status\/2082306054067474899?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allow<\/a> business owners to sue protesters and city officials to enforce their constitutional rights.<\/p>\n<p>As James Madison wrote, laws are meant to protect not only a citizen\u2019s \u201cright to his property,\u201d but also the \u201cproperty in his rights.\u201d This concept extends the law\u2019s duty to protect not simply real estate and personal property (which the city of Madison is unwilling to do), but also the ancient rights that all Americans possess: the right of free movement, the right to earn a living, and \u201cthe safety and liberty of his person,\u201d as Madison wrote. <\/p>\n<p>Citizens are unable to move in and out of the CRAZ to carry on commerce, visit loved ones, and safely enjoy the blessings of liberty. This is a failure of the first and most important duty of government: to enforce the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>This episode is, unfortunately, a preview of a socialist America. Many of the organizers, protesters, and campers, as well as gubernatorial candidate Hong, are self-described \u201csocialists\u201d (and in some cases \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VickiMcKenna\/status\/2080691102034661520?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">communists<\/a>\u201d). They are no different from the socialists in New York, Michigan, Minnesota, and elsewhere in America. <\/p>\n<p>To them, this is what socialism looks like \u2014 suspending the rule of law to ensure that their desired outcome is achieved. The chief socialist goal, as always, is \u201crebalancing\u201d society by taking property from the privileged and redistributing it to the mob.<\/p>\n<p>It is a stark choice, and every day it becomes clearer.
