But unlike the DSA newcomers who won in New York and Colorado, Bush has a political history that voters will have to weigh when they go to the ballot box. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-15\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s a close race from what I can see,\u201d Democratic strategist Brad Bannon told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201dBut I think she\u2019s trying to focus the race on Israel and AIPAC, and that\u2019s probably the smart thing to do because she does have some personal baggage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Included in that \u201cbaggage\u201d is the Democrat employing her husband as her security detail and a Justice Department investigation into Bush\u2019s campaign spending on security services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, Bush said she was fully cooperating with the investigation and maintained she retained her husband as part of her security team because of his \u201cextensive experience\u201d in the area, and that he provided the services \u201cat or below a fair market rate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bush also said she did not use any federal taxpayer money to pay her husband, and that the money came out of her campaign funds. It is not illegal to pay family members with campaign money. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a joint appearance with Bell on a local radio show on July 24, Bush was asked about the payments appearing \u201cunseemly\u201d by the host. In response, Bush said her husband has been found of no wrongdoing, and that he is \u201cdoing the work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople around St. Louis know,\u201d Bush said. \u201cYou see me. You see my husband. He is always at work. Earlier this month, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1661664281597131\">launched an investigation<\/a> into an organization affiliated with Bush over allegations that donations for tornado relief were diverted to her political operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ksdk.com\/article\/news\/local\/cori-bush-raised-tornado-money-through-nonprofit-no-public-irs-record-and-wont-explain-it-before-the-primary\/63-c77f3316-7934-45e2-925a-82bfde9cb1c9\">According to<\/a> local Missouri outlet 5 On Your Side, the organization was launched in May 2025 after a tornado struck the St. Louis area, killing at least four people, with Bush\u2019s political operation announcing it had \u201claunched Politivist Power, a new 501(c)(4) <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >organization uniting grassroots organizing<\/a> with political strategy to fight oppression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bush told the outlet she cannot speak to the organization as a candidate, claiming it is a political action committee. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1324416563185333\">pressed on the nonprofit organization<\/a>, Bush told the outlet, \u201cI cannot speak to \u2026 I can speak to what I just did.
