Shortly thereafter, Mamdani <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4632997\/mamdani-kamala-harris-phone-call-2028-bid\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4632997\/mamdani-kamala-harris-phone-call-2028-bid\/\">confirmed<\/a> he had been in touch with Harris for months. The phone call fueled speculation that she may be trying to curry favor from the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democratic-party\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"288\">Democratic Party<\/a>\u2018s progressive wing ahead of another presidential run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mamdani is a member of the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democratic-socialists-of-america\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"5861\">Democratic Socialists of America<\/a>, which recently published a new platform with controversial proposals. The activist organization also openly calls for abolishing the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"8765\">Senate<\/a> and replacing the president with an executive branch chosen by Congress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Republicans promptly decried the DSA\u2019s \u201cWorkers Deserve More\u201d platform, calling the espoused ideas radical and a threat to the separation of powers among the three different branches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democrats have long cried foul over the Electoral College, pointing to the 2016 election in particular when President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> bested former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 304-227, but lost the popular vote.
