Unless you\u2019re also a Democrat, in which case you were born to be fooled, and you can just go back to sucking your thumb in a basement.<\/p>\n<p>Back in the political Pleistocene, a slippery American president who was known as \u201cSlick Willie\u201d slogged through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2016\/may\/27\/hillary-clinton-bill-clinton-scandals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scandal after scandal<\/a>, often in the company of his amoral and tone-deaf grifter wife. Perpetually embroiled in controversy because of their own behavior, this shameless couple developed a set of reliable techniques for the management of uncomfortable questions.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberly Strassel famously <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/cATnO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">described<\/a> this set of techniques as \u201cThe Clinton Scandal Manual,\u201d and the steps were predictable. First you muddy the paper trail by delaying the release of documents or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/pages\/frontline\/shows\/clinton\/etc\/01301996.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">misplacing the records<\/a> of the scandal. This slows down the arrival of accountability, and forces your critics to engage in a long effort to untangle the threads of your poor choices. <\/p>\n<p>Then, after you\u2019ve forced your critics to prolong their attack by hiding records and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressenterprise.com\/2015\/10\/27\/thomas-sowell-clinton-playbook-stonewall-and-stall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">muddying the waters<\/a>, you count on the news media to get tired of the story. The Clintons knew that the press has attention deficit disorder, Strassel wrote, and its members will eventually want to give up on a topic and move to something fresh.<\/p>\n<p>So then comes the big finish: When critics have been talking about the same scandal for a long time, <em>because of your delaying tactics<\/em> and the hidden paper trail, transition to the frustrated sigh: Why are we still talking about this <em>old news<\/em>? Isn\u2019t it time to move on?<\/p>\n<p>Delay, delay, delay \/ dismiss the scandal as old news.<\/p>\n<p>Now, watch Slick Willie\u2019s old manual at work, coming from the mouth of a different sleazy grifter:<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are in the middle of a measles outbreak. There\u2019s <em>new evidence<\/em>, in 2026, about the real meaning of events in 2020 and 2021. The paper trail was buried for a long time. There\u2019s step one.<\/p>\n<p>Then comes step two: Why are we still talking about this old news? Meanwhile, here\u2019s the current count from the CDC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/data-research\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">measles page<\/a>:<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Manufacturing fake crisis as a pathetic distraction, the halfwit Hassan just straight-up invents a bunch of scary nonsense: \u201cRFK is dismantling our public health system &#038; scientific research.\u201d The CDC will spend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/budget\/documents\/fy2026\/FY-2026-CDC-Budget-Overview-Factsheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">billions of dollars<\/a> in 2026. The NIH will spend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/crs-product\/R43341#_Toc230008199\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tens of billions of dollars<\/a>. Here\u2019s how the NIH <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/about-nih\/organization\/budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">describes<\/a> its own spending this year:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The NIH invests most of its nearly $48\u00a0billion budget\u00a0in medical research for the American people.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 82 percent\u00a0of NIH\u2019s funding is awarded for\u00a0extramural research, largely through almost 50,000\u00a0competitive grants\u00a0to more than 300,000 researchers at more than 2,500 universities, medical schools, and other research institutions in every state.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, approximately 11 percent\u00a0of the NIH\u2019s budget supports projects conducted by\u00a0nearly 6,000 scientists in its own laboratories, most of which are on the\u00a0NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Merely 50,000 grants to just 300,000 researchers at only 2,500 universities: See, scientific research and our public health system are being absolutely <em>dismantled<\/em>! We don\u2019t even have any science or health anymore! She\u2019s making scary but empty noises to change the topic, which is her profession. Maggie Hassan gets a paycheck to prevent discussion about reality. She\u2019s a living truth barrier, and dumber than an old sock.<\/p>\n<p>Hide the records for a long time. Then, when the records are finally found, denounce the fake fact that we\u2019re having a pointless discussion about an old topic. That phrase has become one of our clearest signals that you\u2019re in the presence of truth, with 100 percent accuracy when it comes from the mouth of an old prostitute like Dick Durbin. Discuss anything at all but the <em>evidence<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve erected a whole cultural complex of fakery and distraction, and we\u2019re drowning in the lies.
