The fund’s treasurer was initially Peter Sarasohn, a former Bernie Sanders campaign official, who was later replaced by Beth Edmonds, a retired Maine state senator. Sarasohn also served as treasurer for the super PAC Fighting for Michigan, supporting Michigan Senate candidate Abdul el Sayed, and was actively involved in Jackson’s campaign, including creating multiple campaign accounts and fundraising efforts.

Sarasohn’s swift removal from the Maine campaign’s official filings raises questions about the timing of these changes, especially as updates appeared hours after initial disclosures. Despite Sarasohn’s previous active role, Jackson did not respond to follow-up questions about the switch. Sarasohn has longstanding ties to left-wing campaigns and organizations, including contributions to Sanders and el Sayed’s campaigns.

The article highlights the extensive outside spending backing el Sayed, notably from the super PAC Fighting for Michigan, which received significant donations from individuals connected to organizations linked to controversial figures and groups. These outside efforts have become a point of contention in the primary race, with debates over the influence of super PACs and outside spending despite el Sayed’s stance against accepting PAC funds. the piece also notes the involvement of Jukaku, el Sayed’s father-in-law, a donor associated with organizations linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and designated as unindicted co-conspirators in a terrorist-financing case. The campaigns of both el Sayed and Sanders declined to comment on these matters.

    Read
