Advocates argue that these measures are essential for election integrity, criticizing Democratic opposition as politically motivated. Activists and organizations continue efforts to press Congress to pass the legislation, emphasizing that the vast majority of Americans favor stronger voting safeguards.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>As the SAVE America Act stalls in the Senate, new polls show that an overwhelming majority of voters across both parties are largely in favor of supporting required voter ID laws.<\/p>\n<p>Seemingly every day there are more <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/21\/6600-noncitizens-found-on-new-jersey-voter-rolls-as-democrats-fight-against-voter-id\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a> about noncitizens participating in U.S. elections and undermining the integrity of America\u2019s voting system. Senate Majority Leader John Thune also <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/21\/lazy-senate-republicans-attack-j-d-vance-to-distract-from-their-own-failure\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/21\/lazy-senate-republicans-attack-j-d-vance-to-distract-from-their-own-failure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">continues<\/a> to clash with President Donald Trump, refusing to overturn the now four-month-long blockade of the SAVE Act in the upper chamber.<\/p>\n<p>A recently published poll by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teapartypatriots.org\/july-2026-save-america-act-poll\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.teapartypatriots.org\/july-2026-save-america-act-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tea Party Patriots Action<\/a> indicated over 80 percent of likely voters say that only U.S. citizens should vote in federal elections, while another poll conducted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/fox-news-poll-significant-support-both-voter-id-laws-mail-in-ballots?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=ncl_amplify&#038;utm_campaign=260728-even_socialists_support_voter_id_why_are_democrat_politicians_still_fighting_it&#038;utm_content=ncl-uDCj8XAmbp&#038;utm_term&#038;_nlid=uDCj8XAmbp&#038;_nhids=nc8QycWBBtZ4Pls\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/fox-news-poll-significant-support-both-voter-id-laws-mail-in-ballots?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=ncl_amplify&#038;utm_campaign=260728-even_socialists_support_voter_id_why_are_democrat_politicians_still_fighting_it&#038;utm_content=ncl-uDCj8XAmbp&#038;utm_term&#038;_nlid=uDCj8XAmbp&#038;_nhids=nc8QycWBBtZ4Pls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a> found that over 80 percent of voters think that a photo ID should be required to register to vote.<\/p>\n<p>The data released from TPPA surveyed 1,000 general election voters and was conducted by McLaughlin &#038; Associates on July 22, 2026. <a href=\"https:\/\/mclaughlinonline.com\/about-mclaughlin-associates\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mclaughlinonline.com\/about-mclaughlin-associates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John McLaughlin<\/a>, strategic consultant and pollster, surveyed people nationwide who are \u201clikely to vote,\u201d and divided respondents evenly between \u201cpeople who support Trump and people who don\u2019t,\u201d according to TPPA Chairman Jenny Beth Martin.<\/p>\n<p>The TPPA poll reports 82 percent of participants agree \u201conly United States citizens should be allowed to vote in elections for U.S. president, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additional data from the survey seems to suggest that support for several elements of the SAVE America Act cross party lines.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy-eight percent of surveyed participants agreed that \u201cproof of United States citizenship should be required to register to vote in American elections\u201d including 94 percent of Republicans, 68 percent of Democrats, and 73 percent of Independents.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy-eight percent of participants also agreed \u201cvoters should be required to show a photo ID when casting a ballot,\u201d including 94 percent of Republicans, 63 percent of Democrats, and 75 percent of Independent voters.<\/p>\n<p>In total, 56 percent of the surveyed participants across parties agreed that \u201cthe United States Senate should continue to work to pass [the act] before this year\u2019s elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Senate needs to do its job and pass the SAVE America Act.\u00a0The time for excuses is over. President Trump is demanding it, grassroots conservatives are demanding it, and the American people \u2013 across all party lines \u2013 are demanding it,\u201d said Martin.<\/p>\n<p>Martin told the Federalist that TPPA has fought for voter ID through supporting legislative measures since 2024. When the SAVE Act originally fizzled out in the Senate in 2025, TPPA organized a three-week, 20-state bus tour around country to collect thousands of signatures. Now as the new rendition of the bill, the SAVE America Act, is stalled, Martin and other activists with TPPA are \u201claunching an effort to get more people to call the Senate nonstop\u201d to work on the bill before the Senate recesses.<\/p>\n<p>Martin says the problem blocking the passage of the bill is that Democrat members of Congress will not vote for it. \u201cWe have 50 votes right now, plus the Vice President voting to break a tie if he has to,\u201d Martin said. \u201cDemocrats just won\u2019t budge, even if they support voter ID. They aren\u2019t even trying to work on this and I think that\u2019s a huge issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Fox News Poll seems to corroborate TPPA\u2019s poll showing that \u201csupport for requiring photo ID to vote has remained consistently high, between 77 percent to 85 percent in Fox News polling since 2011.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox\u2019s poll data includes support from 72 percent of surveyed Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven socialists think voter ID is common sense, yet Democrat politicians keep blocking the SAVE America Act and attacking election safeguards because they know they can\u2019t win fair and square,\u201d said Ally Triolo, The Republican National Committee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rnc-has-few-operatives-on-the-ground-in-swing-states-local-gop-leaders-say\/\" title=\"Local GOP leaders report that the RNC has limited operatives in swing states\">election integrity communications director<\/a>. \u201cAmerican elections are for American citizens only \u2014 and the RNC is fighting to keep it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Libby Bandelin is a reporting and editing intern at The Federalist with the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.
