The moment came days after the release of the former health official\u2019s diaries, which documented his <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/27\/if-you-thought-anthony-fauci-was-an-egomaniac-wait-until-you-read-his-covid-diary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">self-aggrandizing behavior<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/27\/here-are-all-the-media-hacks-who-got-shoutouts-in-faucis-diary-for-giving-him-tongue-baths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collusion<\/a> with corporate media, and several <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/27\/faucis-diary-shows-5-major-covid-lies-he-told-the-american-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">falsehoods<\/a> he told the public. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOn the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the 5th Amendment to the Constitution,\u201d Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/anthony-fauci-5th-amendment-testify-covid-hearing-rand-paul-rcna589793\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> when pressed by Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee about his conduct. <\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2095015594\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his opening statement, the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director attacked committee Chair Rand Paul, R-Ky., for criticizing his misstatements and conduct over the course of the Covid outbreak.
