What legitimate government purpose was served by those instructions? Or did you know what they actually believed and nevertheless present their paper to the American public as settled scientific proof that no laboratory-based scenario was plausible?<\/p>\n<p>What specific scientific evidence justified the transformation of a laboratory origin from a privately credible, even likely, explanation into a publicly discredited fringe theory? And why were the American people never told that the scientists behind the paper did not privately believe the certainty they were selling to the public?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>6. The \u2018Keep Dancing\u2019 Coordination<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On May 23, 2021, the same day reports <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/23\/three-wuhan-lab-workers-were-hospitalized-in-november-2019-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">emerged<\/a> that three researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology had become ill with Covid-like symptoms in November 2019, Kristian Andersen wrote to his \u201cProximal Origin\u201d co-authors after meeting with you and your team.<\/p>\n<p>According to the newly released Slack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paul.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/slack-drop-pm.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">message<\/a>, Andersen told them that you and your team \u201cget it and deeply appreciate what we\u2019re doing, so we\u2019ll keep dancing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What exactly did you and Andersen discuss? What did he mean by \u201cwhat we\u2019re doing,\u201d and why did he characterize your continued public messaging as a coordinated performance?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>7. The Furin Cleavage Site Silence<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The furin cleavage site is a short insertion in the virus\u2019 spike protein that enables host enzymes to cleave the protein efficiently, significantly affecting the virus\u2019 ability to infect cells and spread. SARS-CoV-2\u2019s furin cleavage site is <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC10134824\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">absent<\/a> from all of its closest known relatives. Indeed, no natural SARS-like coronavirus with a furin cleavage site has ever been found.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers had previously demonstrated a keen interest in introducing such cleavage sites into SARS-related coronaviruses. The 2018 DEFUSE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/21066966-defuse-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">proposal<\/a>, led by your longtime grantee Peter Daszak in collaboration with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, expressly proposed searching for \u201cpotential furin cleavage sites\u201d and inserting \u201cappropriate human-specific cleavage sites\u201d into SARS-related viruses before testing their growth in human airway cells.<\/p>\n<p>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paul.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2026.07.24_Tonys-Diary-Package.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">diary<\/a> records that by Jan. 31, 2020, approximately half of the scientists involved in the early discussions believed the virus looked \u201cconstructed,\u201d with the furin cleavage site at the center of their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Why did you conceal those extraordinary concerns from the public and then spend the following years insisting that the scientific evidence weighed decisively against any laboratory involvement?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>8. Records from the NIH database indicate that he <a href=\"https:\/\/reporter.nih.gov\/search\/VVOu9OmsY0uVxE4t7xWV-A\/projects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">received<\/a> hundreds of millions of dollars in funding from the NIAID during your tenure.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern continued with the 2021 Dan David Prize. Charles Dinarello, another longtime <a href=\"https:\/\/reporter.nih.gov\/search\/d91bTuH7bEWfBhEzUpXfgg\/projects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recipient<\/a> of NIAID funding, formally submitted the nomination, but the released emails show NIAID employees drafting, assembling, and strengthening the application on government systems and government time. One message thanked you and your chief of staff \u201cfor doing most of the work.\u201d You ultimately won the prize, which carried a $1 million award.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Federal ethics rules prohibit government employees from using public office for private gain or using the authority of their position to induce another person to provide a financial or other benefit. NIH rules also required advance written ethics approval before an employee could accept an outside award.<\/p>\n<p>Did you obtain written ethics approval before soliciting these nominations, and did you disclose that the nominators were scientists whose research was funded by the agency you controlled? Did ethics officials know that NIAID employees had performed substantial work on nomination packages intended to secure personal honors and prize money for their own director?<\/p>\n<p>Most fundamentally, do you believe it was legal or remotely appropriate to ask scientists financially dependent upon your agency to nominate you for lucrative awards while your taxpayer-funded staff prepared the submissions? What safeguards existed to prevent either the reality or appearance of an exchange in which federal research patronage was repaid with personal honors and substantial financial rewards?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>10. The School-Shutdown Denial<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In various interviews, you insisted that you \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/fauci-says-school-closures-deleterious-collateral-consequences-he-had-nothing-to-do-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">had nothing to do with<\/a>\u201d closing schools and that you had <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KanekoaTheGreat\/status\/2081611939533431069\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not recommended<\/a> locking anything down.<\/p>\n<p>Yet your March 15, 2020, diary entry records that you spoke directly with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, convinced him to close the city\u2019s schools, urged him to close its bars and restaurants, and secured his agreement to act on your recommendation. You then held a similar call with California Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s chief of staff, who told you that your television appearances had prompted the governor to close schools, bars, and restaurants across California.<\/p>\n<p>Your public advocacy at the time is also difficult to reconcile with your subsequent denials. On March 15, 2020, you publicly expressed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/world-nation\/story\/2020-03-15\/fauci-open-to-a-14-day-national-shutdown-to-stem-virus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">support<\/a> for aggressive national restrictions, including a possible 14-day shutdown, while New York City\u2019s schools closed that same day.<\/p>\n<p>Why did you later deny responsibility for closures that your own contemporaneous diary portrays you as personally initiating and celebrating?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Record Speaks for Itself<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>These are not 10 variations of the same accusation. They concern sworn testimony, federal records, scientific publications, intelligence assessments, government-funded research, the suppression of dissenting science, and policy decisions that upended the lives of hundreds of millions of people and the education of tens of millions of children.<\/p>\n<p>Nor can Fauci answer these questions by simply repeating that he followed \u201cthe science.\u201d There are simply too many instances of evasion on the record. The evidence comes directly from his own emails, diaries, and calendars, alongside the private communications of the scientists whose paper he helped orchestrate. The contradictions are preserved in their own contemporaneous words.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>When he appears before the Senate on Wednesday, he should not be permitted to deflect with bureaucratic theater, selective memory, and semantic evasion.
