Lindsay James will face former Republican state Rep. Joe Mitchell for the open seat. Republicans have held the district since 2021, most recently through Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), who vacated the seat to run for the U.S. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"8765\">Senate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson, a high school math teacher, is challenging incumbent Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/804831\/rep-brad-finstads-staffer-attacked-at-gunpoint-near-us-capitol\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"804831\">Brad Finstad<\/a> (R-MN) in Minnesota\u2019s 1st District.
