Cusack explains that while Democrats criticize the bill, they do not generally seek full repeal, unlike previous Democratic reforms such as Obamacare. Despite its passage, Republicans have struggled with internal cohesion and difficulties in promoting the bill’s benefits. Cusack highlights that although the bill was a notable accomplishment for the Trump management and Republican Congress, it faced notable resistance within the party, with some senators and representatives voting against it.The passage of the bill has also deepened divisions between Trump and some GOP members, leading to senior figures endorsing rivals or stepping down. Nonetheless, cusack credits House Speaker Mike Johnson for successfully advancing additional reconciliation bills despite the challenges, emphasizing his leadership in navigating a complex legislative process.

Washington Examiner Executive Editor Bob Cusack said Republicans are more divided now than when President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed a year ago.

“Democrats don’t like this bill, they call it the ‘big ugly bill,’ but unlike Obamacare and Democratic bills, Democrats don’t go as far to say, ‘We want to repeal the whole thing,’ at least most of them don’t,” Cusack said on C-Span’s Washington Journal Monday.

Recommended Stories

GOP more divided now than when Trump’s tax bill passed: Bob Cusack

Trump says he hasn’t thought about replacing Thune as majority leader

McConnell ‘not yet cleared’ to leave rehab to return to Congress

Host Taylor Popielarz noted that while the One Big Beautiful Bill Act was a big accomplishment for the Trump administration and the Republican-led Congress, the GOP hasn’t been able to get much done since.
