Trump claimed,&#8221;We\u2019re not after journalists; we\u2019re after leakers,&#8221; emphasizing his focus on uncovering sources of classified data leaks. The DOJ spokesperson stated that a judge threatened sanctions if subpoenas were not withdrawn, and asserted that the investigation into leaks linked to national security would continue. The probe originated from reports questioning why Trump used an older aircraft rather of a Qatar-gifted jet during a NATO summit, raising concerns about the plane\u2019s defenses amid foreign threats. Judge Arun Subramanian ordered the DOJ to disclose internal communications about the investigation, following contentious questioning about the case\u2019s secrecy and the department\u2019s actions. The DOJ withdrew subpoenas for journalist records, including those of Times reporters, after these developments. The <em>New York Times<\/em> and other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-undermined-bidens-popularity\/\" title=\"What Undermined Biden...s Popularity?\">news organizations reported<\/a> that the new plane lacked defensive countermeasures intended to protect the president from missiles and other threats.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, the government said the reporting raised substantial national-security concerns because Trump, senior officials, and reporters had been flying in foreign airspace during hostilities with a foreign adversary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Subramanian on Friday ordered the DOJ to provide internal communications related to its effort to secretly obtain records as part of the investigation. He said prosecutors must turn over, by Monday and on an ex parte basis, communications about the decision to seek a non-disclosure order, whether its application should have identified the records\u2019 owners as reporters, and when the reporters should have been notified of third-party subpoenas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The order followed a contentious hearing on Thursday in which Subramanian questioned the accuracy of the DOJ\u2019s application. The government acknowledged it \u201cinadvertently included language\u201d describing the investigation as nonpublic, although its existence had become public.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The DOJ promptly withdrew subpoenas seeking phone and text records and grand jury testimony from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york-times\/\"><em>New York Times<\/em><\/a>  journalists Julian E. Barnes, Eric Lipton, Tyler Pager, and Eric Schmitt after Subramanian said he would quash them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Newly unsealed records on Friday also showed Google received a subpoena seeking subscriber information associated with a phone number, as well as an order barring it from alerting the subscriber.
